What to look out for Wednesday in the news

It’s a big day in the US elections as the California primary takes place. Donald Trump, already the likely Republican nominee, is expected to win it while it’s a lot less clear who will take it for the Democrats – Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders.

Clinton had already reached the 2 383 delegates needed to become the presumptive Democratic presidential but Sanders is still keeping up the fight.


Locally, DA mayoral candidate for Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba, is set to lead a march for jobs to Executive Mayor Park Tau’s office.

Former crime intelligence boss Richard Mdluli and former policeman Mthembeni Mthunzi are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to the 1999 kidnapping and murder of Oupa Ramogibe‚ who was married to Mdluli’s former lover Tshidi Buthelezi.

In Cape Town, the so-called “Century City serial killer”, Kahangayi Sedumedi, is expected in the high court. He is facing five charges of murder and five of rape.


Keep an eye out as Durban mops up after a huge blaze ripped through the Jesus Dome church.


In finance, statistician-general Pali Lehohla and SA Reserve Bank Governor Lesetja Kganyago release the Gross Domestic Product numbers for the first quarter of 2016.
