Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has met with KwaZulu-Natal Izinduna to discuss remunerations and recognition for the work they do, the Presidency said on Sunday.

The meeting was convened by the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government and was attended by Premier Senzo Mchunu and MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs Nomusa Dube-Ncube.

“Izinduna had raised concerns about the proclamation determining the salaries of Izinduna which was approved by the president following recommendations by the Commission on the Remuneration of Public Office Bearers, as they had not been paid by the provincial government,” the Presidency said in a statement.

During the meeting, it was agreed that Izinduna should be recognised for the work that they do in their traditional communities.

“The meeting also reiterated the need for a legislative review to ensure uniform national standards in the way traditional institutions and their representatives are recognised and supported by the democratically elected government,” the statement said.
