Aimee Pistorius 'dumbfounded' by prison visit claims

2014-11-24 08:53
Pretoria - Aimee Pistorius has blasted media reports concerning a visit to her brother Oscar Pistorius for his 28th birthday on Saturday.

The Paralympian's sister took to Twitter to address claims that she and brother Carl Pistorius had a two-hour long visit with Oscar and brought him balloons, a gift bag and cake purchased outside the prison.

According to the department of correctional services' rules for sentenced offenders, inmates were only allowed delicacies bought at the prison tuck shop and visits were not allowed to exceed an hour.

But Aimee said the visit was only 45 minutes long, and that they only showed him balloons through a glass divider.
The Sunday Times reportedly witnessed the rules being flouted.

The department said the allegations were viewed in a serious light and would be investigated, Sapa reports.

Aimee did not address claims that the siblings' cars were let into the prison grounds without being searched or that Carl and Aimee used another exit to avoid the newspaper's photographer.
