Pretoria - The State has proved beyond reasonable doubt that paralympian Oscar Pistorius contravened the firearms act when he fired a shot in a restaurant, the North Gauteng High Court ruled on Friday.

"He should not therefore have asked for a firearm in a public place...

"The State has proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused contravened... the [firearms] Act," said Judge Thokozile Masipa.

According to count three on the charge sheet Pistorius allegedly fired a shot from a Glock pistol under a table at Tasha's in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, in January 2013.

The paralympian also faces two other charges of contravening the Firearms Control Act - one of illegal possession of ammunition and another of discharging a firearm in public.

On count two, on 30 September 2012 he allegedly shot through the open sunroof of a car with his 9mm pistol while driving with friends in Modderfontein.

Masipa acquitted him on this count.
