Durban - The bodies of an African National Congress councillor and a male friend were found by police in a car near Hlobane in northern KwaZulu-Natal, police said on Friday.
AbaQulusi Local Municipality councillor Alpheus Xulu and the unnamed friend had both been shot dead, police spokesperson Captain Cheryl Venter confirmed.
Police had found the bodies in the car on the road between Hlobane and Inyathi shortly after 02:00 on Thursday morning.
A murder docket had been opened and the shooting was being investigated.
According to a statement by ANC provincial secretary general Senzo Mchunu, the occupants of a bakkie had opened fire on the two men.
