ANC holds thank-you rallies
Cape Town - President Jacob Zuma, ministers and other ANC leaders will address rallies in three provinces at the weekend to thank voters for their support in the May municipal elections.
"The Siyabonga rallies are meant to thank the South African electorate for an unwavering support shown to the ANC in the recent local government elections," the party said on Friday.
Zuma will address a rally in Beaufort West in the Western Cape on Sunday along with the ANC leader in the province, Marius Fransman.
Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe will attend a rally in the Frances Baard region in the Northern Cape on Saturday. There will also be gatherings in the province's Siyanda, Pixley Ka Seme, Namakwa and John Taolo Gaetsewe regions on the same day.
In the Free State, rallies will be held in the Lejweleputswa, Motheo, Fezile Dabi, Thabo Mofutsanyane and Xhariep regions and attended by ministers in the presidency, Trevor Manuel and Collins Chabane, and a range of members of the ANC's national executive committee.
The ANC lost about 3% of support in last month's poll compared to the 2006 local government elections.
