Johannesburg - After the heights attained during the leadership of Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki, the African National Congress is regressing and offering a questionable individual for the office of president, the United Democratic Movement said on Sunday.
UDM president Bantu Holomisa said: "The ANC elected Jacob Zuma, fully knowing that he faced serious charges. The party was forewarned by the public, civil society and commentators. But because of the party's arrogance he was elected anyway," said Holomisa.
Holomisa accused the ANC of being "morally and intellectually challenged" for supporting Zuma.
Referring to ANCYL president Julius Malema's "kill for Zuma" statements, Holomisa said: "Seemingly, some people have little regard for justice and demand only one verdict threatening violence and killings if Zuma is found guilty."
He also called for Zuma to co-operate with prosecutors and investigators before the 2009 presidential elections.
