ANC members in fight at conference

2012-07-02 11:46

Johannesburg - North West ANC delegates had a physical fight on the last day of the party's national policy conference, spokesperson Jackson Mthembu said on Monday.

A North West African National Congress member was addressing the plenary session on Friday when another delegate tried to stop him, Mthembu said.

"One of the delegates grabbed the [microphone] from that person and a scuffle ensued... a scuffle ensued between two or four people. It was a physical fight," he said.

Mthembu said the delegates had also fought about who was representing the North West at the four-day policy conference held at Gallagher Estate, in Midrand, Johannesburg.

The ANC's national executive had to step in after five provincial executive committee (PEC) members were removed a week before the policy conference.

ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said national officials declared invalid and unconstitutional the removal of provincial chairperson Supra Mahumapelo, treasurer Philly Mapolane, deputy provincial secretary Gordon Kegakilwe, spokesperson Kenny Morolong and PEC member Matthew Wolmarans.

The PEC was divided over several issues.

Mthembu said one North West delegate was kicked out of the conference.

"All those involved will be subjected to disciplinary measures," he said.

These would be handled by the ANC national executive.

Mthembu said five people with fraudulent accreditation tags had also been found at the conference.

This was reported to the police and two of the five people were arrested.

"When there is an event as big as this one was, some people try to take a chance... but we were well prepared," said Mthembu.

Apart from these incidents the conference was a "runaway success", he said.

Runaway success. HAHA. Having a physical fight is something that happens in primary school. Not with grown ups running the country, sorry.

      azande.futhi - 2012-07-02 11:57

Flying fists is not alien in parliament of one of the most powerful economies in the world, China. That piece of info should assist to enlighten your narrow and subjective view on issues?

      smili.fication - 2012-07-02 11:59

China? You are a fool. They dont have fights in their parliament. YOU MEAN TAIWAN. *Shakes his head at people trying to be smart.

      jackal666.daniel - 2012-07-02 12:02

Nice starting a Monday off with a laugh!

      Henk - 2012-07-02 12:02

China! So they even now wants to model their conferences the same way as the new Baas does? Amazing!

      Jaco - 2012-07-02 12:03

Ah, so because China is doing it it’s ok then? Great logic there. See that is the difference between mature sensible people and you. Just saying – not expecting you to understand it.

      Gerald - 2012-07-02 12:06

@ Azande. They were fighting each other, not members of other parties. Im not so confident in the leadership abilities of this troop of Ladies and Gentlemen

      Provence - 2012-07-02 12:09

Fighting is success for the ANC why would you think otherwise

      azande.futhi - 2012-07-02 12:12

@jaco, u surely lost the gist...let me help u, chris thinks its only primary school children who fight, not grown ups (politicians)...hope it helps. @Smilie, does that correction make a difference to the point made? your EGO is surely boosted by that correction you made. Poor little thing HAHAHAHAHA

      Sharon - 2012-07-02 12:17

this is what happens when too many dogs gather ot the feeding bowl

      Provence - 2012-07-02 12:21

Azande, i see you have no problem with this kind of behavior? No further comment required!

      Jaco - 2012-07-02 12:23

Azande... Haha, I told you not to try and understand it. Being grown up doesn’t make you mature and sensible. Age doesn’t always equal coherent. (case in point). Hope it helps (but I doubt it).

      smili.fication - 2012-07-02 12:23

I dont have a "boosted" ego... I was just not taught in woodworking class dumba$$. ANd here is another correction for you. China has one of the worst economies in the world. They just have plenty of cheap labor... If you want to go and emulate the Chinese do so in Zimbabwe... we don't need that in a civilized country... And no Azande... most of us don't jump each other after a night out at the shebeen. SO... just STFU.

      Jono - 2012-07-02 12:24

      Jaco - 2012-07-02 12:39

Azande, I must apologize for my stupid comments. Insults will not get us anywhere. My point is just that it is very frustrating to see this kind of behaviour in parliament. These people is supposed to be role models for us and have our best interest at heart. Instead they are fighting each other about who will be representing what. It is scary for me because it is those people who have your and my future in their apparently incapable hands.

      azande.futhi - 2012-07-02 12:48

@jaco, granted. its greed and selfishness that is rife within the ANC structures. That's the unfortunate part. The good leaders are suffocated by the bad lot who are intending to loot the resources before their time is up in leadership... Hard and scary fact.

      scouter.fourone - 2012-07-02 13:13

I personally lay the blame for all this unfortunate disharmony on Satan ..........

      mbambo.shi - 2012-07-02 13:50

@ Azande, you're simple impliying that ANC is a copy-cat of the ChiNA parliamentarily infighting??. To expand your IQ, in the parliament, China fights because they represents different view as they're from different parties. ANC members having to wrestling each other, that's hue turmoil.

      melania.nel - 2012-07-02 14:01

@scouter... You speak the words of a leader. I can't stop laughing.

      tgif.wtfaw - 2012-07-02 14:19

Runaway Success, Well done Jackson dish out a extra bag of peanuts to all the delegates. Not the ones in the fist fight or the one caught for drunken driving !

      chris.cunning.14 - 2012-07-02 15:36

@Azande: My comment implies that they can act a little more mature than getting into a fist fight. I place the same comment to the people in China. Closed mind or not, wrong and immature is still wrong and immature. As a matter of principle one doesn't get into a fist fight. Is that what our leaders want to teach our children? Is that the image we want to project to the rest of world (excluding china, how act the same)? I surely hope this is not the type of behavior you encourage Azande.

      azande.futhi - 2012-07-02 17:57

not at all Chris. I dont promote that behaviour.

  • smili.fication - 2012-07-02 11:53

All is not well in the ANC! The vultures are starting to realise the corpse is nearly depleted, so they're fighting each other for the scraps...

  • maseratifittipaldi - 2012-07-02 12:03

Do you think they fought each other to be first to deliver services to the people or to be first at the feeding trough?
