Johannesburg - The Eastern Cape ANC has parted "amicably" with senior provincial leader Mkhangeli Matomela, the party said on Monday.

"He will resign as an ANC MPL and a member of the party. He agreed he would have an amicable parting of ways," provincial African National Congress secretary Oscar Mabuyane said.

Matomela could not be reached for comment.

Provincial party leaders met Matomela on Monday after a report by the Saturday Dispatch Online that he had formed a new political party.

Matomela reportedly said in his inaugural speech at the launch of The Kingdom Governance Movement on Thursday in Bhisho that the new party would soon be registered with the Independent Electoral Commission and would contest the 2014 national elections.

"I feel limited in the ANC and have taken a decision not to campaign for them for the upcoming elections but for the prophetic kingdom politics," Matomela was quoted as saying.

Matomela also reportedly called the ANC, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and the South African and World Council of Churches part of a global "antichrist" movement.

Mabuyane said the report was a "complete distortion".

"The meeting went well and he explained himself," he said.

Mabuyane said Matomela would love to work with the ANC, but would not be able to further his religious goals because of the way the party was structured.

"He is not anti-ANC."

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
