ANC starts campaign trail in North West

2011-02-08 16:35

Johannesburg - The ANC's local election campaign will start in the North West at the end of February, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said on Tuesday.

The party's local election manifesto would be launched on February 27 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in the North West, he said.

ANC branches in six provinces had completed their nominations for candidates ahead of the 2011 municipal elections.

"... The provincial executive committees... are now finalising our local candidates for the local government elections," Mantashe said in Johannesburg after an extended meeting of the ANC national working committee.

A date for the polls has not yet been announced, but they could take place sometime between April and May.
