Johannesburg - The ANC's national executive committee (NEC) will decide on Monday how to handle the two provinces that failed to meet their nomination deadlines, secretary general Gwede Mantashe said.

"We have completed 10 now of the 12 provincial nomination conferences. There are two outstanding," Mantashe told SAfm.

"All of them have gone well and the results have been announced. There are two outstanding - Limpopo and the Western Cape. We will be dealing with those today [Monday]. There's an NEC [meeting]."

The North West announced on Monday morning it would support President Jacob Zuma for another term at the party's national elective congress at Manguang in the Free State in December.

Most provinces nominated Zuma, but conferences were plagued by factional discord.

The ANC in Limpopo had to cancel its Provincial General Council (PGC) on Friday night after disruptions.

The party in the Western Cape adjourned its PGC early on Saturday morning without endorsing candidates because of logistical delays that included the verification of branch delegates.

Provincial secretary Songezo Mjongile said on Sunday that the PGC had convened again at 21:00 on Saturday night, but had collapsed again.

"The nomination conferences were supposed to end on Friday. We said those who overflow [into] the weekend, we said let's allow them," said Mantashe.

"But Limpopo and the Western Cape... they've gone past the deadline. If there must be any exemption, it must be a resolution of the NEC," said Mantashe.

Asked about "chaos and violence" at some provinces, Mantashe said: "That's why there's leadership in organisations. Leadership is there to deal with problems.

"There's no disaster if you complete 10 provincial nomination conferences and there are problems at two."
