ANCYL not aware of liquidation bid

Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League was not aware on Wednesday of a reported
high court application to have it liquidated and its bank accounts frozen.
"I am not aware of any application. We will look into it and if there
is something, we will issue a statement," said ANCYL spokesperson Khusela
Sangoni-Khawe.
Beeld reported on Wednesday that the application by Z2 Presentations was
handed in at the South Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
According to court papers, the company claimed the ANCYL owed it R12.8m.
This figure reportedly includes R7.6m for services rendered at the league's
Bloemfontein congress in 2008, when expelled league president Julius Malema was
elected as leader.
The rest of the debt stems predominantly from interest accrued since 2008.
Marius van Rensburg, Z2 Presentations' lawyer, confirmed to the newspaper on
Tuesday that the court papers had been submitted.
"The papers have not yet been given to the ANC Youth League, but the
sheriff of the court has been asked to do so urgently this week," he said.
ANC spokesperson Keith Khoza told the newspaper the party was not aware of
any liquidation application.
He said it was highly unlikely that the ANCYL would be liquidated.
"They have no assets, and the ANC lends them the office space they
occupy."
When asked by Beeld how they could enter into agreements with service
providers if they had no assets, Khoza said they had "probably hoped to
collect funds".
