ANCYL welcomes Zuma vote

Johannesburg - The vote of confidence in President Jacob Zuma in Parliament on Thursday has been welcomed by the ANC Youth League, the organisation said.

The youth wing said that it confirmed the confidence of South Africans in Zuma and the ruling ANC in enhancing and improving the lives of the people.

The vote of confidence comes amid violent service delivery protests that have been erupting across the country recently. "The attempts of political parties to bring our democracy into disrepute have proven a failure time and time again.

"The ANC has demonstrated time and again that it will continue to advance the interests of the people of South Africa and stop at nothing to ensure a prosperous and united South Africa," the league said.

Divide

It said this would be done as opposed to the efforts of "frail" political parties to divide its people and society.

"The president of the Republic of South Africa embodies the essence of the struggles for national liberation and the full democracy, peace and unity that we enjoy as a nation," it said.

The league further said: "The government of the ANC has delivered and continues to deliver on progressively developmental programmes that benefit all South Africans led by the president of South Africa."

Zuma comfortably survived a motion of no confidence on Thursday when an amendment motion proposing full confidence was adopted in the National Assembly instead.

Congress of the People parliamentary leader Mvume Dandala, who proposed the no confidence motion, said Zuma "has let us down. He has let Africa and the world down".
