Agriculture DG suspended

2012-06-26 16:48

Cape Town - The director general of the department of agriculture, forestry and fisheries has been suspended.

"This media release serves to inform you of the suspension of Mr Langa Zita... This suspension is an administrative matter," the department said in a statement, posted on its website.

It said senior department official Sipho Ntombela was acting director general.

No reason was given for the suspension, and the department was not immediately available for comment.

Zita's suspension has been welcomed by the Democratic Alliance.

"Mr Zita has done little to put this struggling department back on a solid footing, and the DA has in the past called for him to be removed from his post," DA MP Annette Steyn said in a statement.

Less than 2 years ago: 2010-09-06 14:37 Cape Town - Former MP Langa Zita has been appointed as the director general of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Tina Joemat-Pettersson, who announced the appointment in Cape Town on Monday, said Zita had the necessary background and skills. So where's the "background and skills" now?

How ironic given Zuma's rant about the pressing need for land reform this morning. Sums the whole circus up perfectly.

Milk it and move along, many more waiting to follow in your footsteps. Isn't that how it works in government these days.

My research has yielded the following about the Honourable Mr Zita \Masters degree in Public Development and Management from Witwatersrand University,A journalism degree from Rhodes University,Studying towards BA Honours degree in Economics through the University of the Western Cape (research paper outstanding) and A prospective  PhD candidate with the University of Cape Town looking at the political economy of freedom in the developing world..on the contrary me being a commoner have attained a Master of Agriculture from the University of Queensland(Australia). Now if we were to compare the credentials I will say Mr Zita has all the required skills to be a corrupt cANCer buffoon who gets a position because of political connections and I am just a sore loser who is not even employed cos apparently \I'm over qualified\ to Hell with him and Tina Joemat too, we need sound academics and skilled people to run the Department of Agriculture, I hope someday we will have a leader who will appoint people based on ability not on cronyism

Hey Sanele, we need you back in South Africa now!!! How can we as a country keep on letting our young educated people go? But, on the other hand, it's great in Australia where they have laws and very little corruption. It must be nice to live like that - no worries mate!

      sepcebekhulu - 2012-06-26 18:29

Ooi ooi mate @ Bullard.9 sure OZ is a wonderful place to live in the possibilities are endless but I feel the need to come back and contribute my skills to the country before we turn into Mashonaland like our neighbours across the Limpopo

I agree with you.... when one reads the C V's of the Puppets in DAFF its hilarious to say the least. What is most interesting most of the current so called heads of Department appointed by the Communist Party DAFF Minister..... What more can be said other than DAFF as a whole has been reported to the Public Protector for investigation and the PP has indicated a willingness to investigate the complaint.... interesting times ahead!
