Johannesburg - An amnesty call centre set up by the department of public works is a waste of money, the DA said on Thursday.
"Given the lack of public response to the call centre, it's a complete waste of money," Democratic Alliance public works spokesperson John Steenhuisen said in a statement.
The centre was set up six months ago to help the department complete its audit of state land.
Steenhuisen said it was a good idea, but the department had not done enough to publicise the centre's services.
"The ministry needs to monitor the call centre carefully in order to make the accurate assessment of the facility's viability."
He said the DA would write to the minister of public works and request a full review of the centre.
"Should this facility still be operating under-capacity after this time, a decision will need to be taken regarding its future."
The department of public works could not immediately comment on the matter.
