Audits prove DA's better, party says
Cape Town - The auditor general's report on provincial finances showed the Democratic Alliance governed better than the African National Congress, the DA said on Wednesday.
Its parliamentary spokesperson on co-operative governance James Lorimer was commenting on a report which rated the DA-run Western Cape the province with the best financial administration in 2009/10.
"It also marked a significant improvement on previous provincial audits, achieved when the ANC was in control of the province," Lorimer said.
"The results constitute further evidence that where the DA governs, it delivers a better run administration than the ANC."
A clean audit, such as the Western Cape's, required political leadership that did not micro-manage, allowed professionals to do their work, did not meddle with good appointments and did not mis-spend public money.
"We do not indulge in fruitless and wasteful expenditure; indeed, austerity has been one of the Western Cape's hallmarks," he said.
