Balindlela a political liability - ANC

Johannesburg - The ANC's Jackson Mthembu on Tuesday said the DA had nothing to celebrate after ex-Eastern Cape premier Nosimo Balindlela joined its ranks.
DA leader Helen Zille announced earlier in the day that Balindlela has resigned her membership of the Congress of the People (Cope) and given up her seat in the National Assembly.
Mthembu said the ANC was dismayed at the DA's claim that Balindlela had been a member of the ANC's top council.
"
Nosimo Balindlela has never been an NEC member of the ANC. The furthest that she rose in leadership terms was being a regional chairperson of the ANC," he said.
Mthembu said it was misleading to associate Balindlela with the ANC as she had been Cope member since 2008.
He added that it was widely known that known factor that Balindlela was the least effective premier in the Eastern Cape and had, for that reason, been recalled.
"If there is anything that the DA has netted, [it] is a political liability that will further alienate the party in the Eastern Cape.
