Big donations help ANC in KZN

2012-05-15 12:03

Pietermaritzburg - The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal received R8m in donations in the 2011/2012 financial year, bringing its bank balance to R11.5m, it was reported on Tuesday.

The figures are contained in the party's provincial financial report presented at its elective conference in Newcastle over the weekend.

The Witness reported that treasurer Peggy Nkonyeni told delegates that private donations to the party increased from R7.3m in 2009 to R16.3m in 2010. This dropped to R1.5m in 2011 and shot up again to R8m for the financial year ending March 2012.

"In 2008 the organisation received a measly R334 640 in donations," the report said.

The drop in donations between 2010 and 2011 meant the ANC’s bank account shrank from R18.7m to R6.9m. The most recent R8m donation ensured it was safely in the black.

The province's finances are now so good it has paid R3m upfront to cover rent for its headquarters until 2017, the newspaper reported.

Donations? Is that what they are called?

      Gestoffle - 2012-05-15 12:11

They are going to have to get loads more "donations" to pay back all they stole - foremost in my mind is the R20bn from last year and the R200m in today's news........

  • tonyzr2tx - 2012-05-15 12:16

Wonder who they are paying the rent too?

      Bob - 2012-05-15 15:09

tony, if they have paid in advance you better believe they personally own the offices and rent them out at a high price to the ANC, I would just love to see who gives the donations, all fat cats winning government tenders I guess, well maybe winning is the wrong phrase.

It would have been nicer to reveal who the cash donors are and why are they so generous??? Mrs Zille gets hot flushes when asked about her rich party's funding

  • glen.e.huysamer - 2012-05-15 17:08

Who is the financial idiot who paid 3million rand upfront, 3million rand invested over three years at 10% average deviance would give approximately R300 000 rand a year profit, which is better in the pocket than out not to mention compacted interest. All this lost, it shows ANC has no logical thought pattern on finances, another failure. Obviously somebody is receiving a backhander here from the landlord. Quite a bazaar decision.

11Million rand, why not buy a new headquarters or even build one, and secure permanently.

      koos.vandermerwe.338 - 2012-06-18 23:57

They know they will not be there in 10 years time.
