Cape DA resolves ward row

Cape Town - The Democratic Alliance said on Friday that the contentious Simon's Town and Fish Hoek ward issues, which saw two councillors resign from the party because of unhappiness with a new ward candidate, had been resolved.
Ryan Coetzee, CEO of the party, said councillors Nicki Holderness and Felicity Purchase would be the DA's candidates in the two wards.
"They have the party's full support and we are confident they will retain their seats and continue to serve their communities," he said.
Discussions had been held with all concerned and disciplinary action against the two councillors, driven by Western Cape leader Theuns Botha, would not go ahead.
Holderness and Purchase resigned when Marius van Rensburg was named as the Simon's Town candidate, allegedly as a result of procedural irregularities.
Coetzee said the matter was past and the party could now focus its attention on the forthcoming municipal elections.
