Johannesburg - There was still no agreement by Saturday night over who will govern Cape Town, the Democratic Alliance said after media reports that the DA will receive mayorship.
"The report that the DA will receive mayorship is inaccurate. Negotiations are still continuing," DA spokesperson Robert Macdonald said. He was responding to an SABC report that the DA will receive the mayorship of the Cape metropole council, while the ANC will settle for the position of deputy mayor.
ANC provincial secretary Mcebisi Skwatsha said: "I don't where these reports comes from. I am part of the negotiating team and I don't know anything of such a decision. There's no deal yet."
Talks between political parties in Cape Town over who will govern the Cape metropole council began a week ago. This after no party won an outright majority in last week's local government election.
