Christian party astounded by intolerance

2012-01-31 14:11

Johannesburg - The Christian Democratic Party has expressed astonishment over intolerance of its view that a DA poster of a young couple embracing promotes sexual immorality.

"These people are like mindless zombies that have been impacted by liberal brainwashing that has swept over this nation like a wave-of-swill," CDP spokesperson Stanley Le Fleur said on Tuesday.

The poster, showing a mixed race couple without shirts embracing, and the payoff line "In OUR future you wouldn't look twice", prompted the CDP to claim it promoted sexual promiscuity.

It described the poster as insulting to people with high moral values, saying it sent the wrong message in a country battling with levels of HIV/Aids, crime, and farm murders.

The "attack" on CDP leader Theunis Botha, who issued the original statement criticising the poster, contained foul language, "suggestive insinuations", and betrayed the intellectual capacity of the writers, said Le Fleur.

Moral degeneration

"Never before in the history of this country have more people gone out of their way to prove their moral degeneration and to attack someone else’s right to an own opinion."

He said Botha did not mind because "men like him who dare to stand for their Christian values have always been prepared to be ostracised for their convictions".

"But, no matter what efforts are made to silence the Christian voice, it will endure forever."

Botha said later: "You get these sort of responses from people who think it is their mission to denigrate those who don't accept their politically correct views on certain things.

"People seem to think that if you have a Christian point of view and you believe in a Christian ethos you are from the dark ages and you need to come to the 21st century."

On Times Live, one "Scribbles" wrote: "...Beelzebub could be tearing his way up from hell itself just at the thought of such a 'scandalous' and 'immoral' display of affection".

Link to farm murders

"CrackerCracker" wrote: "Thanks Christian Democratic Party for reminding all fair-minded people how restrictive our existence would be if religion is allowed its way."

Botha apologised for the link to farm murders made in his statement, explaining it was inadvertently inserted by the press officer working on a separate statement on the subject.

The poster drew an unexpected amount of comment and requests for interviews by international media, said Democratic Alliance Youth director Aimee Franklin.

"We certainly got a mixed reaction from people," she said.

The DA's supporters were largely positive.

"On the other end of the spectrum, there were some comments that were quite horrific to say the least. People were quite shameless to share some very racist and intolerant views."

Blah blah blah. They are assuming of course that there is no way the couple in the poster could be the portrayal of a married couple. If the poster was promoting promiscuity it would have shown multiple naked people, perhaps even an orgie. But one naked man holding one naked woman does not = rampant fornication. Nice try with the back paddling though.

      ianmichaelcalder - 2012-01-31 14:46

While judgement on peoples sexual habits is being passed by those who have none. . . I wouldn't mind getting down to some promiscuity with Aimee Franklin.

      Mikael - 2012-01-31 14:48

David wrote, "Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them," Psalm 119:165. The CDP are a bunch of wimpering hypocrites !

      Citizen - 2012-01-31 14:50

Theunis Botha the name says it all, caught in a 1960's time loop...if they had clothes on Theunis, would this be ok, probably not huh, too much colour in there for you ..

      Martin - 2012-01-31 14:50

to the xtian party....These people are like mindless zombies that have been impacted by liberal brainwashing that has swept over this nation like a wave-of-swill," more fitting to your kind

      Godfrey - 2012-01-31 14:52

What nasty small minded awful hypocritical cretins these loudmouthed religious types are. We can be thankful for one thing though. If there really was a god then these guys would be running the country and it would be back to the good old days the Nationalist Party religious dictatorship - ban books, ban and censor movies, no Sunday sport, god botherers justifying their discrimination, prejudices and murderous actions with the bible. Perhaps they are not praying hard enough or they are praying to the wrong god and she is now really peed off.

      sachasea - 2012-01-31 15:16

When will these prehistoric dinosaurs join us in the 21st Century?!!

      John - 2012-01-31 18:47

The DA voted with the ANC for ABORTION ON DEMAND. The DA voted with the ANC for SAME SEX MARRIAGE. The DA voted with the ANC for PROSTITUTION. The DA Leardership Does Not Have Morals. Just Opposing the ANC on Property Rights and Financial Responsibility is Not Enough.

      africanhope - 2012-01-31 19:42

Uhm, John, you are messing up your facts there mate. DA did not exist yet when abortion issue came up. Parliament never voted on same sex marriage, that came from the constitutional court. (ANC was actually against it don't you know!). There has not been a vote on prostitution, and it is still illegal in SA. So John ether you have no clue or you are lying, and lying is immoral you know. And you also proof once again why we need to be a secular state. Remember we used to be a Christian state, and look where that got us! Apartheid!

      ianmichaelcalder - 2012-01-31 20:19

John, I've got an earth shattering idea for you. Don't vote DA - vote for the people that support what you believe in. You can notch up the schooling that you just received from africanhope as part of your education at "the university of life", as per your Facebook page.

      Blip - 2012-02-01 05:27

John Paul won't let the facts interfere with his own opinions. If the facts don't fit that opinion, dump the fact. It's called bigotry.

      hein.huyser - 2012-02-01 06:53

Godfrey, ianmichaelcalder et al; there is always 3 sides to a story. Yours, mine and the truth. The very thing you accuse the Christians of, you stand accused of by yourself. And so by the way, what has your post in common with the content of the article? or could you just not let this opportunity slip by to "slam" those who dare to believe differently?

      MagdaKus - 2012-02-01 06:54

Actually one cannot see enough of the lady either to say that she's completely topless or not either!

      Jennifer - 2012-02-01 11:09

@Mikael, please don't quote the Bible out of context. I say that with the greatest respect.

      Craig - 2012-02-01 12:46

@ JOHN What are you basing you idea of morals on? All those points seem pretty responsible and moral to me.

      Sean - 2012-02-01 13:46

What`s the big bloody fuss about the poster , great marketing ! It got all the publicity it needed ! Well done DA !

  • Andres - 2012-01-31 14:28

It is not Christian to be judgmental. The knee-jerk reaction to the poster was the reason for the CDP being on the receiving end of so-called "intolerance," due to the CDP's perceived "intolerance" of an inter-racial embrace that is clearly intimate, not sexual. This is a poster for varsity campuses (over 18's only), not public display on lamp-posts, in mainstream media or where children may see it; under 18's may not understand the difference between sex and intimacy, the majority of over 18's do, especially the intelligent varsity student. If the CDP wants more "tolerance" for their stance, why have they not asked for the censure of Cosmopolitan magazine? This type of scene is tame in comparison to what is in open media for ALL to see.

      rbczovczov - 2012-01-31 18:04

It described the poster as insulting to people with high moral values...blah blah. Who are these people with HIGH MORAL VALUES? I would like to meet them and do a little digging into their pasts and closets. I am certain I will find acts of low moral value therein.

      Godfrey - 2012-01-31 18:50

Like high morals Hansie or high morals PW Botha.

      Merven - 2012-02-01 07:19

'It is not Christian to be judgmental.' Well, tough luck in telling that to Christians.

      Marius - 2012-02-01 14:12

      @Godfrey. Brilliant, Brilliant.

  • Josh - 2012-01-31 14:29

So the SACP is astounded by the intolerance of it's intolerance?

      PointBlank - 2012-01-31 14:32

      In a nutshell.... yes.

      Godfrey - 2012-01-31 14:59

I wish the ACDP Christians would properly identify themselves. What type of Christian are they? A Hansie Cronje, Joost van der Westhuizen, Ray McCauley, prosperity gospel (check my designer shades), Christian;? A Benny Hinn fraud faith healer (no amputees allowed), Christian? A Pope, hates gays, condoms, abortion, birth control and reports of clergy child abuse, Christian? A Joseph Smith, I found the gold tablets and Jesus visited America, Christian? A Glossolalia, cmtru wiggwagg snogerumpus slobberdam molosovic, tongue slobbering, rolling on the floor, Christian? A Jim Jones, have some Kool-Aid, Christian? A David Koresh, what a lovely little daughter you have, Christian? A Sun Myung Moon, the moonie messiah, Christian? A Seventh Day Adventist, Kellogg's Corn Flakes on Satuday, Chrsitian. A Jehovah's Witlness, sorry no blood transfusions and you are not one of the lucky 144000, Christian? A sex obsessed member of The Family type Christian? A Christian Scientist, we don't do doctors but pray even if kiddies die, Christian? A gun toting, rapture ready. American Jesus, the world is going to end this year, again, Christian? An Aryan National, neo nazi, we hate jews and people with dark skins and Jesus was a white man, Christian? An anti-science, anti-knowledge, the world is only 6000 years old, Christian? None of the above but a true ™, whatever that means, Christian? Understand my confustion? It helps to know where they get their intolerance.

      Wendy - 2012-01-31 15:10

Godfrey, is it your confusion which makes you repeat, ad nauseum, the same mindless drivel over and over and over and...........................

      Godfrey - 2012-01-31 15:22

@Wendy Would you like to classify yourself and help me out here because you all avoid the issue.

      Godfrey - 2012-01-31 15:57

      Godfrey - 2012-01-31 17:28

Usual Xian hit and run from Wendy and Frester. The make a comment and run away from the response. Moral and intellectual cowards.

      ianmichaelcalder - 2012-01-31 20:25

No Godfrey, they didn't, they stuck around long enough to thumbs down your comments because it makes them feel better. Anything that has been copy pasted is typically something worth repeating. Wendy and Fredster could have easily just said that there are always exceptions to the norm, and you can't measure a group on the left/right wing groups and the crazies. Instead, they lost their credibility by saying what you are quoting is crap. Pity. I'm not Christian but even I'd have liked to have seen them defend their ilk with a little more finesse.

      Merven - 2012-02-01 07:24

Lol Godfrey (or is it God Free?), you sure put a smile on my face this morning, thanks!

Godfrey the funny thing that one type of christian is often intolerance to the other type of christian e.g.catholic vs prosperity gospel.

      CdeSganja - 2012-01-31 14:41

@Josh and Kyle you can't debate boys, and you really can't see the facts. you are too defensive.

      Josh - 2012-01-31 14:49

There is no such thing as debate when blind faith is the topic of conversation. That is why it is called blind faith. Debate requires logic and understanding. What you are referring to is preaching. Learn the difference. Maybe Google it.

  • ubhejane - 2012-01-31 14:33

This the beginning of the end of the DA. They are only getting what they rightfully deserve. How clever are you when your quest is to increase your constituency and then you alienate virtually the whole population. Very clever thinking DA. But this was your watershed moment, from here the road is a free fall into oblivion. Enjoy the fall!

      Josh - 2012-01-31 14:40

@ubhejane - every time I see 1 of ur comments it's just hate mail. You must be a very angry person.... I assume you were on stage sipping the champaign with the leadership at the last ANC conference? If not it's ok. You have your fist. :)

      ubhejane - 2012-01-31 14:43

@CdeSganja. If you want to really have a good laugh, watch now who defends this poster and then you will know who is hiding their promiscuity behind political correctness.

      Mouldy - 2012-01-31 14:46

Really? And I'm sure you have many years of Political Analysis experience to back up that statement.

      ubhejane - 2012-01-31 14:49

@Kyle. Go read my comments again. You seem to missing a link in life. I have already created my own Apartheid and you can do nothing about it. It is my constitutional right. Count who is in favour of sleeping with our women and then you will see the problem was never a political one, but on about white men that don't seem to be getting enough at home.

Enjoy poverty and starvation as the ANC increases its stranglehold on the country.

      DayanGovender - 2012-01-31 14:57

What I have noticed, after perusing most of the comments related to the DA poster, is that people are more FOR the poster than against. I would say that those who are against are in the minority and I for one will continue to support their open mindedness.

      Kyle - 2012-01-31 15:00

@ubhejane - thats fine, why are you debate here then, stay in your little world and leave the rest of the intelligent life alone...if you want apatheit then we''l give it to you.... just put you on permenant ignore.

      ubhejane - 2012-01-31 15:01

Dream on Govender. 99% of the electorate isn't raging on here or for that matter anywhere on Internet. They don't have computers. But I will allow your blissful ignorance.

      Moi - 2012-01-31 15:02

@ubhejane - "If you want to really have a good laugh, watch now who defends this poster and then you will know who is hiding their promiscuity behind political correctness." Wow, talk about narrow minded. I choose defend the poster, I am married and my only sexual partner is my husband and he is the only sexual partner that I have ever had. You see sex when you look at the poster, I see love. You don't have to agree with my point of view, but neither do I have to agree with yours. Kindly refrain from labelling people as promiscuous simply because they do not share your point of view.

      DayanGovender - 2012-01-31 15:09

Yep the masses are not raging here dude cos they are too busy being scammed by the government who make false promises and which they dumb enough to fall for every time. I am not ignorant just open minded!

      ubhejane - 2012-01-31 15:24

Dear Moi1980. As I'm not the party fighting to survive the policies of the ANC, I can tell you what is wrong with this poster. You see as a politician you have to be clever to grow your constituency. Please tell me how long have white men been sleeping with our black women? OK. You agree it has been 400 years. What would you think at this given moment here in 2011 would be our biggest political challenges? Sleeping together or getting corruption sorted out? Please broaden my horizons for me. I'm choking to death in my narrow mindedness!

      Moi - 2012-01-31 15:36

@ubhejane - kindly note, no where in my post have I made reference to any political party. My issue is with the derogatory term which you use to label the people who do not share your point of view. I'm not looking for any political message or hidden agenda in the poster. I see two people in love. A future where race means nothing. I see beauty in that. Can you not comprehend that? You obviously don't sahre my view and that is your right. However, I do not resort to name calling or labelling, simply because you do not share my views.

      VoiceOfReason - 2012-01-31 15:40

Once politics is taken out of the race issue or to put it another way once politicians stop playing the race card to garner support then seeing mixed raced South African couples will be an event like a leap year rather than an everyday sight.

      Patrick - 2012-01-31 15:40

@Ubhejane - Yes, getting corruption out of our government is very important, and this was obviously an attempt at conveying a potential unity for our country and one where people just accept one another. Was this an effective message, in this case no. But seriously, how are we going to get corruption out of our government when the majority of said ruling party is in fact corrupt and keeps getting voted in. Can you honestly tell me that there is another party other than the DA that actually has a chance of getting said corruption out of our government?

      ubhejane - 2012-01-31 15:54

@Patrick. This was the first intelligent post I have read today. Please don't confuse my sexual preferences with my political views. For the last 5 years I have been fighting side by side with the DA to get the ANC out. Their corruption is out of control. As I have said 400 times on here, mixed race couples are nothing new, but South Africa isn't ready to embrace mixed marriages. 18 years weren't enough to heal the wounds. 45 Million of my people are still freaked out by white people. The way forward for the DA is to comfort those 45 Million people and make them believe that the DA is a truly non-racial party. You don't go throw a poster like this out there to freak 45 million people and some Christians and Afrikaners out and then the next day expect these people to trust you. If we know this kind of thing still freaks people out, why would you choose this subject to grow your electorate? I have the constitutional right to marry my Zulu girl. I don't care if the Eskimos mate with the polar bears. I need a party that will address the corruption and education. Not who sleeps with who. Can you in all honesty tell me this was the right approach to gain electorate knowing the electorate is still caught up in the past? Any smart thinking politician would tell you this is political suicide. Do you see what I am getting at?

      Patrick - 2012-01-31 16:05

@Ubhejane - Yeah i see what you're getting at, i just think people are knee jerking a bit too much here right now. I agree that this message was entirely wrong but being in advertising myself i see what they were trying to convey and how they were trying to convey it, perhaps in a different country this would be hailed as a brilliant poster (Germany perhaps), here however i can very much understand why it has received the criticism it has. I think they should have simplified their poster and perhaps had two racially different hands holding one another or something, not such an extreme image as this. I think that it is far too early for these kinds of images, like you said, 18 years is not enough time to heal the wounds, if i was black i'd be pissed off no doubt. I personally feel that they should have openly focused on corruption for their new campaign, it would have caused reactions but i'm willing to bet it would have caused the correct reactions.

      PointBlank - 2012-01-31 16:15

I think we can all agree that ubhejane is completely and utterly threatened by this poster, a weak minded individual who's noticeable and desperate attempt at trying to discredit this poster has shown a glaringly racist side that he so woefully tries to palm off as "his views".. Admit it dude, you a stinking racist.. I highly doubt you voted for the DA and you comments all have a racist undertone.. You lack even a morsel of credibility..

      Desmond - 2012-01-31 16:19

if malema cannot sink the ANC why should this sink the DA

      PointBlank - 2012-01-31 16:20

@Patrick, hold hands?? You mean to say the poster should have displayed the limits as to how you would want to see a mixed couple... that the fact they kissing is offensive to you? That it would be more acceptable to see them holding hands or walking close to each other.. The DA are spot on, the fact that people are uncomfortable with a mixed couple showing intimacy shows the suppressed racial intolerance harbouring in thousands of South Africans. You sound like my mother who says she doesn't mind seeing gay people hold hands but kissing, sies.. You no different.

      Patrick - 2012-01-31 17:09

@Point Blank - You misinterpret me, that's not what i'm saying at all. I mean holding hands to illustrate unity, not to illustrate mixed marriages. In fact i'm willing to bet that the reason they chose the picture they did was because it illustrated so much unity. I am also saying that it is society who is reacting with sies because it is such an extreme image, people may not be ready for the full on mixed marriage but two people from different cultures holding hands is far more passive and has far different connotation than two people in an embrace. The fact that they are kissing is not offensive to me, i never said that at any point, i just think that it would step on some peoples' toes and it has. I think the message is very apt, the execution deserves some more thought, however.

      PointBlank - 2012-02-01 08:51

@Patrick, sorry I did not mean "you" as in you.. I was using the term "you" in a generalised format.. The majority, and I feel safe in using that term, of naysayers over the posters have all indicated that the message would have been better received if they were depicting a mixed race couple holding hands or a group of mixed raced people sitting together.. My argument remains the same, is this the limit of how one would want to see mixed race couples? Again I use my poor old Mom as an example.. "I don't mind gay people as long as...." Except in this case, "I don't mind mixed race couples as long as...."

      Ian - 2012-02-01 10:16

Ubhejane - The ANC get voted into power because the majority of the populace are scared of the return of Apartheid. So the majority votes for the "black" party - this view is reinforced through various articles in the news and indeed in speeches from certain members of the ANC(malema). According to audit reports the DA run Western Cape is the LEAST corrupt of the provinces. Therefore assuming that we all know that the DA is far less corrupt(no politician is ever truly not corrupt) what is the biggest hurdle facing the DA in terms of gathering support and winning votes? (keep in mind that they have "proved" they are better at governance than the ANC based on the audit reports and general feedback from the WC) Ok, to answer that: The DA is viewed, by the masses, as a "white" party - i.e vote for the DA and bring back Apartheid. Once again this idea is reinforced by the ANC, especially (according to news reports) in Limpopo. Thus the DA, with this poster, is attacking the view held by many that it is a party for whites-only. The slogan "in OUR future you wouldn't look twice" is extremely effective in conveying this message. This poster is a brilliant work, its raised issues and debate and as a result awareness of the message of the DA. a Message clearly stating: we are all the same, we are all the norm, we can, must and will come together as a Nation. i have to say that if you fight against that notion, then you are part of the problem in RSA. viva Democracy!!

      Patrick - 2012-02-01 11:13

@Point Blank - No, all good thought as much :) I personally feel that we should all be willing and ready to embrace such an extreme sense of unity and i agree that people can't be half heartedly willing to accept mixed race, like you said about your ma and the gays. I just think it's too early to for that in this country, ultimately i feel we should be striving for the whole "you are like me, I am like you, who cares about race?" view of society but that's still to come. There is still a lot of bad feelings towards people of different race in this country, it's sad but is gradually changing i feel, perhaps one day we can be like Germany? Perhaps that's the issue with this poster, that it is in fact too radical for some who are still caught up about all the drama from way back when?

  • Gcwabe-KaMavovo - 2012-01-31 14:34

Me too Kobus. They lost my vote and they won't know the full tally until the next election. See the worry in my eye!

      Gcwabe-KaMavovo - 2012-01-31 14:47

"CDP". The ACDP is a different entity being led by an equally deluded man of the cloth, Moshoe.

      Brett - 2012-01-31 14:51

@ubhejane why did they lose your vote? Scared that you will lose your cushy AA job should the DA come to power?

      methedex - 2012-01-31 14:52

so the DA has lost all your votes? So you'd rather vote for the ANC who promote RAPE, MURDER, THEFT and CORRUPTION? You are all retards...

      Kyle - 2012-01-31 15:01

@Brett - he's scared the white people will rub the zulu out of him....

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-01-31 15:02

Heaven will burn to the ground (that's if it exists lol) before the DA goes anywhere, and you bunch of ignorant bigots get power. Haha your confidence in yourselves is hilarious.

      ubhejane - 2012-01-31 15:03

Ha ha ha Brett. I don't have a BEE job. Just because I'm black you thought my skin brought me here where I am?

      Isabel - 2012-01-31 15:07

Kobus, I'm sure the DA is glad to be rid of your vote. They like to keep up the quality of their members!

      Kobus - 2012-01-31 15:28

Not as glad as I am for having revealed their true colours Isabel :)

      Barker - 2012-01-31 16:16

If the poster had been of 2 men or women of different races in the same embrace, would the CDP have complained because they are naked, or because they are perceived to be gay.

      Merven - 2012-02-01 07:34

Lol ubhejane, they never had your vote, looking at your mindset you are clearly one of those ANCYL members.

      Darryl - 2012-02-02 10:36

Congratz Kobus, you have successfully voted for Julius Malema!

  • Mouldy - 2012-01-31 14:39

Lol, one can see way, way more revealing stuff than that during family time on DSTV. Seen the latest edition of Sports Illustrated Swimwear edition boys? Get real people. Don't these politicians have crime to fight and a country to save?

  • Moi - 2012-01-31 14:44

Oh dear, hear we go again. Obviously, they don't feel they got quite enough publicity from their initial comment so they're giving it another go.

      TaniaSandraSteyn - 2012-02-02 13:12

It's backfired nicely then. The poster has received more attention due to their efforts..;-)

  • JohncarlosBiza - 2012-01-31 14:48

The CDP just wants people to know it exists

  • thilo.klingenberg - 2012-01-31 14:48

Dear CDP, from a born-again Christtian to you - why are you surprised? You should know better than anyone that you reap what you sow. You showed no tolerance of any kind in your response to the poster and immediately thought the worst. As we try to live like Jesus did, I am absolutely certain that Jesus would not have responded like that. We live in a country with religious freedom and your reponse does much more harm to our faith than good. I am sure that many people are more put off by your version of Christianity than ever and that is a shame. As many people have commennted, the couple could be married and they could even have clothes on, so why assume the worst? The only time Jesus showed anger in the Gospels, was with religious people. Maybe there is a lesson there for the CDP. While Jesus live an absolutely perfect life, he showed love to sinners and accepted them as they were while encouraging them to change their ways. So a positive response to the message of the poster and encouragement to maybe portray the message in a different way, would have been a more appropriate response by the CDP. Here is a challenge for the CDP: how about you come up with a poster that brings across the same message in just a bold and creative way!

      Isabel - 2012-01-31 15:09

Well, said Thilo. I wish more christians thought like you.

  • peter.vanderwalt - 2012-01-31 14:49

You, sir, DO NOT speak for all Christians. Nor do you, despite what you may think, speak for God. If you saw anything promiscuous in this poster, you better get your head out of the gutter. You can't put on the victim outfit when people object to YOUR lack of tolerance... and your insistance to perceive yourself as a victim does not objectively make you one. Signed, A Believer.

  • Jannah - 2012-01-31 14:50

Get over it! Only idiots would see the poster and then HAVE to jump into bed with someone immediately ... it's like showing a James Bond move with a gun and then saying it promotes violence, or a picture of a burning building and saying it promotes pyromania. There's sex on TV and just about everywhere else, it's not like it's hidden from the world. And this poster doesn't even show sex. There are many black and white couples who are very much in love and committed to each other ... I am so sick of people judging everyone else! Just live and let live. No one's forcing you to be with a white/black person, they didn't say it's everyone's cup of tea, no one's forcing you to be promiscuous or to commit adultery. If you are that easily influenced by advertising you area moron anyway.

  • Dieter - 2012-01-31 14:52

'n swart ferrari het ook pienk seats!

      Pete - 2012-01-31 15:11

Ja, maar die uphostery is 'n bietjie krapperig...

      Chris - 2012-01-31 15:52

      love you to bits !!!!!

  • Jannah - 2012-01-31 14:54

And exactly WHAT should the DA do? Advertise an all-black or all-white future. Yeh, that would be super smart. People will always have something to say ... if the man and woman were both black, the whites would have a fit and if they were white then the black would complain. All it is is thinly-veiled rascism. Face it, people ... we have many races and cultures in our country and who are we to judge anyonwe for who they choose to love?

      ubhejane - 2012-01-31 15:08

Jannah catch a wake up call. South African politics isn't your romantic version of a love story. This is reality and the DA needs votes. They sure have been very clever in progressing themselves to a greater future. White men have been sleeping with our women for 400 years. This is nothing new. We want a party that addresses corruption and education, not who is in the sack with who!

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-01-31 15:21

They have votes, that's why they won the Western Cape, and are actually doing what they were voted in to do, instead if stealing and making excuses. Run and manage the province as best they can. Not one ANC municipality can claim the same.

      Sharon - 2012-01-31 15:43

@ubhejane............are you upset that a white women did not want you, you keep on saying we cannot satisfy our men, please leave what you dont know about alone. Oh yes a lot of black women prefer the white men because they treat them better than you (black man) treat them.........DID YOU LIKE THAT COMMENT????????????????????????????????????????????

      ubhejane - 2012-01-31 16:10

Sadly Shanna I like my girls black. Like all the other guys on here rooting for this poster. Why do you think 99% of the people posting on here are white men? Could it maybe be that white women are not that palatable behind closed doors? Or is it just maybe that you feel offended because I'm not chasing some neurotic blonde without a brain?

      Barker - 2012-01-31 16:22

@Shanna Not only are you a closet racist, but also stupid.

      PointBlank - 2012-02-01 09:06

Shame ubhejane, so threatened by this poster and the overwhelming positive response to it.. Suddenly your little "them" and "us" world has been shattered and so you desperately cling onto the little scrap that is left.. Poof, you have suddenly become insignificant.

      Chille - 2012-02-02 07:03

@barker, I believe Shanna was being facetious.

  • grieta.mitchley - 2012-01-31 14:55

People are so busy seeing the devil in every thing- they forget to seek God in other things!

      ubhejane - 2012-01-31 15:09

Grieta drink a Red Bull and grow some wings. You are an angel in the making.

  • Sechaba - 2012-01-31 14:56

why too many Christian parties?? South African Christian Democratic Party, African Christian Party, African Christian Democratic Party and all other christian parties

      Kyle - 2012-01-31 15:02

@Sechaba - we lucky we dont have a christain party for each christain denomination

      Gcwabe-KaMavovo - 2012-01-31 15:05

The Shembe party would've been split into 10 factions by now.

      ubhejane - 2012-01-31 15:10

      The more the merrier.

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-01-31 15:53

Because the Christians (not all) believe us liberals/atheists are the devil's spawn, here to cause destruction and pain to all non-sinners... and they just love to push their beliefs and morals on others. What better way to do that than through a political party... I reiterate... this is NOT ALL christians... only the dumb ignorant faction.

  • wesley.bischoff - 2012-01-31 14:58

Your whole party and religion is based on intolerances and bigotry.

      TheSkepticDetective - 2012-01-31 15:19

"How dare you be intolerant of my intolerance?!?!?!!" -Theunis Botha

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-01-31 15:34

      Lol exactly

  • Christiaan - 2012-01-31 14:59

I love that the DA have decided to go ahead with this campaign. F#ck the rest of the people. Regardless of religion, this is what is happening. Deal with it. Mixed race couples, mixed race friends. Its NORMAL. In the next few years, hopefully we can say COUPLES and FRIENDS without having to say Mixed Race. It doesn't matter and it shouldn't have to bother anybody. So many of us have embraced other people, classes, races, religions, cultures. Its normal. Its how God (all religions apply here) wanted it to be. I honestly don't see the protest. Especially the race-related ones. True, its a poster that leaves little room for imagination. Or let me say too much room for imagination. That I can almost understand why it would offend the older people. STOP READING OUR POSTERS THEN! Its for the youth. Its not forcing anyone to go have sex right now. Its just a poster. The people who are complaining about this "advert"/poster are probably the same people who enjoy the late night adds on e-TV. I don't see you complaining about whats going on there? If anything, this was THE smartest campaign yet. Modern people, such as myself, find it awesome and beautiful and a hopeful goal oriented campaign. The rest of the people who complain about it just makes the DA's argument stronger. And the publicity is fantastic!!! Well done!

      JohncarlosBiza - 2012-01-31 23:27

I tried discussing the poster with a friend at campus and the convo lasted less than 20 seconds...there was just nothing to say. There's nothing unique about it in our reality. The CDP must back off youth matters.

  • VoiceOfReason - 2012-01-31 14:59

Who is to say that they are not married? Mr Botha to assume is to make an ASS of U and ME.

  • Isabel - 2012-01-31 15:01

Blah, blah, blah. Christians will always think they're the only ones entitled to a point of view, and that theirs is standing twenty feet above the rest of us on the moral high ground. Get over yourselves. If you don't like it then don't look at it. And do the rest of us a favour and shut up.

      Kobus - 2012-01-31 15:32

      Ditto to you Darling.

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-02-01 00:09

      What a condescending prick.

  • Ian - 2012-01-31 15:03

No! Mr Stanley Le Fleur, we (meaning not just the youth but liberal and forward thinking people) have moved on from the way you and people like you interpreted religion as you did back in 1980. Is it not organizations like yours that preached political nationalist propaganda back in the 80’s. If you don’t move on and adapt with the times then you will stay behind and be left to grapple in your outdated views. Of course, according to the CDP, it is not possible to adapt to changing times and still remain a devoted Christian / Hindu / Muslim / Jew or take your pic. Now – go and seel crazy somewhere else

  • helen.derobillard - 2012-01-31 15:07

All I can say is we need to stand together as a nation, respect one another, but do not agree with mixed couples loins do not mate with rino Sheep do not mate with dogs they keep to there own kind, so how can we with brains mix our breed we are bringing children into the word that are what? they dont belong to white or black it is unfair on the children, if God wanted a mixed race of whatever we would all have been born the same he made us as we are and to respect what we have been born into. the advert is just alot of bull trying to brain wash everyone into saying mixed marriges or relationshpis are fine.

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-01-31 15:19

Lol you cannot brainwash some1 just by having them look at a poster. Gosh

      Moi - 2012-01-31 15:38

A dalmation will mate with a boerbull, lions have mated with tigers, etc... We're all human. We're all one species.

      ianmichaelcalder - 2012-01-31 15:45

If you added some punctuation, I'd have only pegged you as a complete racist bigot instead of thinking that your IQ > 70. I absolutely LOVE your example though - Considering how much interbreeding actually happens in nature. Oh no wait, God hates my dog because its a cross! Unless you are saying that blacks and whites aren't both humans? Wait... you probably are, because you are that stupid.

      Mercha - 2012-01-31 15:56

Woooow helen! what an opinion. read your bible carefully not just in sections or what you think you should read. People can come in different shapes, colours, cultures etc. Black people and white people are all people, they just have different skin colours. Are you suggesting that only one race is classified as human and the rest are a different species?? Read Romans 3, the entire chapter. Maybe then you will get a better understanding.

      Randomhero6661 - 2012-01-31 15:59

i think you are brain dead

      PointBlank - 2012-01-31 16:00

      Claire Sandham - 2012-01-31 16:06

It is so sad that there are still people who think like this in South Africa. You should be ashamed of yourself.

      Godfrey - 2012-01-31 16:07

Helen Dullard You are proof positive that religious brainwashing addles brains and causes mental illness.

      Free Your Mind - 2012-01-31 16:27

Ask for a refund of your school fees. Homo sapiens is the only living species in the Homo genus. We all have the same body components but to make life interesting we have different appearances in hair colour, eye colour, skin colour and bone structure. (BTW Lions, rhino, sheep and dogs are all different species of animals.) We all originated from the same place, i.e. Africa. Maybe they did not know that yet when you were at school, so I'll give you a break on that part.

      Juan - 2012-01-31 19:08

Helen go for a brain scan please.

      JohncarlosBiza - 2012-01-31 23:22

I stopped reading after a few sentences, gave you a thumbs down, clicked on your profile and the first thing I saw amongst your interests was Steve Hofmeyr. Now I feel sorry for you.

      Felix - 2012-02-01 11:52

LMFAO! I think Helen found a way to communicate with the future from the 16th century.

      aardvarkie - 2012-02-02 09:49

@Helen - a little fact you may want to consider next time before you post a stupid comment - those animals are different SPECIES - blacks and whites are the SAME species and completely compatible. Also, how arrogant are you to presume to know what God wants and what it is - and no, you can't refer to the Bible because that was written by men - fallible, centuries old, low IQ men who first passed the stories in there by word of mouth (ever played broken telephone) then recycled into different languages and modernised and revised hundreds of times. Bibles make great door stoppers in my house.

      cialb - 2012-03-26 17:31

WHAAAAAT?? Is this for real? OMG, I cannot believe such a person actually exists and "thinks" like this! It`s the most depressing post on this whole page. Apart from the spelling and grammar, the actual opinion expressed is sickening. Please go and live in in Orania or some such place.

  • TheSkepticDetective - 2012-01-31 15:08

You are welcome to your archaic opinion, Christian Party, just don't try and force it down everybody else's throats. But I would like to know what gives you the right to proclaim that your morals are the only real morals and everyone who disagrees is a liberal-brainwashed pig? (Look - no insults or anything!)

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-01-31 15:18

The holy fantasy book "gives" them the right. Every bigot thing they say or do has justification from that waste of paper.

  • Hermann - 2012-01-31 15:11

Just look who attacked the DASO's right to express an own opinion and is now crying foul. A sign of intolerance?

  • sachasea - 2012-01-31 15:25

Weird how they interpreted that meaning before seeing the meaning I first thought of when reading the slogan, which is that the sight of a mixed couple embracing should be a perfectly normal, acceptable and even unremarkable sight to behold - no rise in blood pressure, no negative discriminatory thoughts popping into your head, etc. In fact I find it quite hard to fathom how one couldn't arrive at that conclusion first as it seems so very obvious.

  • brionyl.french - 2012-01-31 15:29

To me the message was simple, In the future it wont matter what colour we are, because we are all equal, and all the same people, because we all are South Africans... Not White, Black, Indian, Coloured, We are South African!!! And all you really scared narrow minded people really need to wake up and realise your stupid and then work on not being stupid and accepting that we are people... the same.... you think your souls have colour? crazy?!?!? Wake up South Africa!!!

      Moi - 2012-01-31 15:39

Well said. We seem to be looking at the same poster! :)

  • J-Man - 2012-01-31 15:36

HAHAHAHA...the CDP talking about people being brainwashed....bunch of hypocrites!

  • rowan.oliver - 2012-01-31 15:40

Wow people have way to much time on their hands if crap like this is still in the news... it was bearly relevant last week!

      Felix - 2012-02-01 11:55

It is a bit of a grizzly affair.

  • Chris - 2012-01-31 15:42

Helen Ziller helped bring the National Party to a fall. She was a big supporter of the ANC. Then started the DA. The voters she stabbed in the back, believed in herand started voting for the DA. Sorry Helen you have just lost our family as voters !!!!

      PointBlank - 2012-01-31 15:58

SO, in a nutshell you find a mixed couple offensive... admit it.DA doesn't need racists in their electorate thanks... bye bye..

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-01-31 15:59

Oh gosh whatever moron. She went to the DA because she didn't agree with the morals and stance of the cANCer. Flip, as if she had this plan to betray you all lol. Your vote won't be missed, good riddance. And its Zille (minus the r)

      Claire Sandham - 2012-01-31 16:10

So she lost your vote because she supports mix race couples? In that case I am sure your vote won't be missed.

      Peter - 2012-01-31 18:07

Your family do everything as a collective, no individual opinions? Jeez, must be an exciting broad minded bunch to mix with.

      Felix - 2012-02-01 11:57

Quick Chris, check that your wife is still in the kitchen!

      cialb - 2012-03-26 17:34

Perhaps you and that unbelievable de Robillard person should start up your own new party?

  • cupcake - 2012-01-31 15:53

you stupid idiots just need to say something dont you. sometimes one should just keep quite and look what the outcome will be. love how you give us Christians a bad name by saying stupid S*%&

      Barker - 2012-01-31 16:38

Intolerance should not be accepted in our lifetime. Christians per se do not have a bad name, only the zealots, as with all religions.

      Barker - 2012-01-31 17:06

An oxymoron if there ever was one. Stupid Idiot

      Scouter - 2012-01-31 17:37

@Barker - it would be wise of you to check the meaning of a word before using it. 'Stupid idiot' is not a oxymoron since the two words in the term are not contradictory but rather a mutual assertion.

  • Jacqueline - 2012-01-31 16:05

The CDP is probably just using this as an excuse to get some publicity. Have not even heard of them before this 'scandal' LOL

  • Free Your Mind - 2012-01-31 16:10

"These people are like mindless zombies that have been impacted by liberal brainwashing that has swept over this nation like a wave-of-swill," CDP spokesperson Stanley Le Fleur said on Tuesday. I think "liberal brainwashing" is probably a contradiction of terms but it made my day nevertheless. There's hope for this country! "Never before in the history of this country have more people gone out of their way to prove their moral degeneration and to attack someone else’s right to an own opinion." Ouch, own goal! Do you need a new copywriter?

  • Ndivhuwo - 2012-01-31 16:14

DA ads have no real message of social development. I think they are overwhelmed by liberal ideas.

  • Rene Smit - 2012-01-31 16:18

    Define Christian values pls

  • margaret.mead1 - 2012-01-31 16:18

I am a born again Christian, and appreciate the CDP being diligent about morals, but who's to say the couple in the photograph aren't married? I think the posters are beautifully modelled and photographed, and I think (the ones that I've seen anyway) fairly discreet, though provocative to some extent. They have certainly have the desired effect, i.e. of promoting the DA in the public arena. They are eye catching. Personally, up to this point I'm not offended (although I haven't seen all the posters).

      Barker - 2012-01-31 16:40

      There is only one poster.

      Peter - 2012-01-31 18:16

They're not copulating so I guess marraige in this case is irrelevant, christians are allowed to show affection are they not? I guess it's which one of the hundred different christian twists you believe in. Seems christian values are rather broadly defined, not fixed in any way, the believer makes them up himself according to what he wants to believe. I know racism is quite a popular version of christian belief. Bit of a farce I say.

  • Peter - 2012-01-31 16:39

Hypocrits. They made an issue of it due to the fact that it was a mixed couple. The truth is clear about the CDP, they are abusers of religion for political purposes. I have less than no respect for this political party. Typical, twist religion to suit specific agendas, I abhor these people.

  • Barker - 2012-01-31 17:02

Just wondering. Can an Atheist/Muslim/Buddist/Satanist be a memebr of the CDP. If not then they cannot call themselves Democrats.

      Peter - 2012-01-31 18:33

Don't understand your reasoning Barker. Why would an atheist or Muslim join a party that represents christians? (or claims to) What I would like to know is what type of christians do they represent. They should clarify that, because there are so many versions. They obviously cater for racist christians (can you call yourself christian if you're racist?), and christians that don't show public affection. Perhaps also slightly perverse christians who see any form of physical contact as "sexual". I still gaurantee they would not have said a word if it was a same race couple. They are hiding their true racist objections to the poster, behind the facade of immorality. Quite pathetic.

  • Scouter - 2012-01-31 17:11

@Godfrey ...... "Anybody who thinks that they get their morality from God is mistaken" Who died and made you the God of all truth?

      Godfrey - 2012-01-31 18:55

Oh that is just too easy. WIll you now accept the proof of god challenge? Can you provide evidence or a "logically compelling, deeply informed, morally profound, or conceptually arresting" argument for the existence of your god? Waiting ................

      Scouter - 2012-01-31 20:04

In the first instance, that wasn't the question - who entrusted you to be the compass of all theological belief and matters esoteric. In reply to your question - no I don't, at least not a proof that would satisfy you. My evidence satifies me though which is good enough for me but I respect your right to unbelief. I consider myself to be fairly informed on the subject having studied a BTh but I doubt you would hold much store by that. I just object to your sweeping conviction that you are right I am wrong.

      wesley.bischoff - 2012-02-01 00:15

      *disbelief

      Godfrey - 2012-02-01 05:54

What is a Bth - the study of nothing. Well done on you stupendous academic achievement. Belief: (n) 1. The act of accepting as fact a proposition that is not supported by evidence. 2. The refusal to question the acceptance of an unsupported fact despite the presence of controverting evidence. 3. The lack of interest or will in seeking knowledge, evidence or perspectives that would tend to argue against the acceptance of an unsupported proposition. It’s called “faith” because it’s not “truth.”

It's funny how if you don't support the same soccer team as someone, you have a difference of opinion; but if you don't agree with someone who has a religious point-of-view, you are intolerant...

Religious people all seem to have different views, thats what is so confusing, which one is the "truth". I know many christians whose main fear is having to pray in the company of other races. Hulle moet in hulle eie kerk beid. Lovely that such values are so important. It would be nice if they could just be honest and admit they're racist, they only believe in the bits of the bible that suit them. This is my most common experience with christians, hence my lack of respect for a lot of them. Not much to trust about them.

The Christian (what a joke) Democratic Party has had it's 5 minutes of fame. Good night!

  • Nick - 2012-01-31 18:59

Liberal brainwashing? CDP - talk about the "pot calling the kettle black"...

  • Marius - 2012-01-31 20:19

Isn't religion very convenient (as it always as been) when it is used to justify your prejudice and racism? But when you encounter opposition it at the very least seems silly. "mindless zombies that have been impacted by liberal brainwashing" Wow. Double wow. Coming from a religious outfit, that seems slightly ironic. The CDP could not say (as they wanted to of course) that they do not agree with relationships between different races, so they somehow decided to play the promiscuity card? How on earth they read promiscuity in this poster only their deluded religious brains will know. I am just so very glad that society of late does not stand for this theocratic encroachment on our liberties. And a Christian Democratic Party is a complete contradiction, as true democratic principles should uphold proper secularism - the separation of church and state - I mean, hasn't history and the middle east taught these people anything?? Well I am sure their 15 supporters must be up in arms with them.

AntiThesis, you are correct. If this group were truly Christian they would follow Christ's command to be "no part of the world". By actually having a political party, as happens in other countries as well, this lot are showing a complete ignorance. Further they show the hypocrisy of Christendom by taking a moral 'high ground" in one instance while continuing to ignore a basic Bible command on the other hand. Anway, the Bible they put their faith also prohesies that these people will be brought to destruction soon enough.

      AntiThesis - 2012-02-02 08:32

Ozzy, just clarify a few things for me please: What is meant by this biblical command, to be "no part of the world"? Also, what people will be brought to destruction soon enough?

      OzzyIn - 2012-02-02 14:14

AntiThesis, to be "no part of the world" is to not get involved with politics or take sides in war. Jesus understood that people have to be in this world (or system of things) and pay taxes, etc. but not get involved. As for those that will be brought to destruction, the Great Tribulation will start with the downfall of "Babylon the Great" (Rev 14:8, 17:3, 18:2) and all that worship it. This is the entire empire of false religion (including Christendom).

Mix politics and religion and this muddled excuse for an argument is the result.

  • Blip - 2012-02-01 05:24

Pot calling the kettle black, perhaps?

  • NickvanderLeek - 2012-02-01 07:21

what's all the fuss about, it's tame.

  • Paul - 2012-02-01 07:57

As a Christian I find it embarrassing that the Christian Democratic Party is so small minded and prejudiced. The DA poster of a mixed racial couple does not encourage sexual immorality. There is no nudity shown, the couple appear to be of consenting age (they could be married) and in a clean, romantic embrace. There is nothing sleazy about it. The CDP's response highlights the DA's point, that in their future you wouldn't look twice. In other words it would be quite normal and acceptable to see a mixed race couple in love. The CDP needs to get off of their holier than thou ivory tower, and get real!

      AntiThesis - 2012-02-01 08:04

Actually I think they are just racist, but of course could not say as much, so its easier to play the morality card

      PointBlank - 2012-02-01 09:02

That is my argument as well, it is "acceptable" to see a mixed couple waking down the road, but to actually witness intimacy then oops it suddenly becomes a morality issue... Go figure.

  • Craig - 2012-02-01 12:42

Like any one takes these mindless christians seriously anyway. THEY are the most intolerant bunch around!

  • Craig - 2012-02-01 12:55

"God is dead... I am God" Nietzsche

      AntiThesis - 2012-02-01 14:10

Obviously, and as usual, you have no idea what he meant. Sigh.....
