Communications bill gazetted
Johannesburg - The electronic communications amendment bill has been gazetted for public consultation, the department of communications said on Tuesday.
The bill would be tabled in Parliament next year.
It was aimed at giving clarity and to strengthen the powers, role and the functions of the communications minister and the Independent Communications Authority of SA (Icasa).
The department said the bill would also seek to improve the turnaround times for consultation processes, and to revise the role of the minister and of Icasa regarding frequency spectrum management.
Licensing issues would be refined and competition provisions improved, said the department.
