Construction at Malema's home halted

2012-04-13 09:06

Johannesburg - Building was halted at the Sandton construction site of the new home of embattled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema a week ago, according to a report on Friday.

Beeld newspaper reported that Malema was allegedly unable to settle debt of R400 000 owed to his building contractor at the end of March, after which the company decided to transfer its workers to another project in Bedfordview.

According to Beeld, Malema tried to transfer money from two accounts to pay Kwandisa Construction, but his second transfer failed.

The SA Revenue Service had also reportedly approached Kwandisa Construction with queries about Malema's financial affairs.

Federico de Gregorio, the owner of Kwandisa Construction, confirmed to the newspaper on Thursday that building had been "temporarily halted".

He could neither discuss nor confirm rumours that Malema's account was in arrears, or divulge details about the outstanding amount.

Malema bought the property in September 2009 for R3.6m, then demolished it to make way for a new three-storey home with an underground parking garage.

And I hope and pray with all my heart that the little blessed stays healthy enough for his prison term too! Hate for him to get off for ill health & have to learn to play golf - thats bound to be too difficult! I just want a nice cosy cell for him with a few nice men to cuddle him and keep him comfy.....and whisper sweet nothings in his ear at night!

IAnon - you haven't factored in what other work they have been granted(most likely in Limpopo) for the privelege & honour of building young Julius's Sandton Palace. Must be quite dissapointing for such a company when things suddenly go so pear-shaped ....

      CharlesDumbwin - 2012-04-13 09:18

Exactly !!! Remember when Malema said he flaunted his wealth but wasn't going to just give it to the poor. He said they should follow his example of how someone could become rich, and aspire to be like him. I wonder who wants to be like this loser now ???

  • Marion - 2012-04-13 11:14

What was he saying to the poorest of the poor when he demolished a perfectly good house in order to build his fancy R16 million mansion with its bunker? A person who is truly sensitive to the plight of the poor would have just built a piece of land and built on that in my opinion.

      Irene - 2012-04-13 11:22

On top of that, a person earning R20k a month can't afford a R3.6million house, let alone demolish it.

      watsongeorgejan - 2012-04-13 11:46

And what more, he advocates nationalisation of mines (which by the way is not ANC policy) ,guess who would have benefited from that...Poor gullible S Africans !!!

      Marion - 2012-04-13 12:03

This should have read 'just bought a piece of land'. :-(

      alfred.willie - 2012-04-13 12:44

Marlon, who made us to be classified as the poor of the poor, is malema?

      Marion - 2012-04-13 13:06

@alfred.willie - no, he never made the poorest of the poor, (there are poorest of the poor in every country in the world) but he does rub their noses in his excessive lifestyle at every opportunity while supposedly fighting for their rights. If he had bought a nice piece of land for even one million he could have donated the other 2.6 million towards building houses for at least 26 of the poorest of the poor he knows as an act of true charity. He could even have claimed some of it for income tax relief. But no, he bought a really nice house for 3.6 million and demolished it in order to build a house for approx. R16 million. That is plain sinful. And if you have access to internet you are certainly not the poorest of the poor. The poorest of the poor I know lives in a shack in George Goch, she can't even charge a cellphone, much less have internet access.

  • Niel - 2012-04-13 11:20

      Niel - 2012-04-13 11:56

He was supposed to be 'dead' by now....! I'm confinced Selebi also got the # somewhere....!!! Its time that he is held accountable for his actions and face the music! The old saying ' give someone enough rope and they will hang themselves!!!' - very appropriate....!!!!!!!

      shaun.ruth - 2012-04-13 16:00

The problem is that, just before the trapdoor opens to let the criminal fall into oblivion, the ANC finds a way to have the rope cut.........everytime a coconut
