D-day for KZN municipalities

Durban - Tuesday is the cut-off day for 18 KwaZulu-Natal municipalities to explain how they spent public funds, the provincial co-operative governance department said on Monday.

“Tomorrow is D-Day for some 18 municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal who have continually failed to report to the provincial government on how public monies are being used each financial year,” said MEC Nomusa Dube in a statement.

She said she had called the municipalities to attend an urgent meeting at Durban City Hall on Tuesday morning.

Dube met the 18 municipalities in September last year where she warned them not to break the law.

She said despite a grace period and capacity assistance, the municipalities had still not provided financial reports.
