DA: By-election results show growth

Johannesburg - The DA’s showing in by-elections held this
week indicates its support is growing, the party said on Thursday.
"The DA made significant inroads in by-elections
held yesterday [Wednesday]," spokesperson Mmusi Maimane said in a
statement.
"We contested four wards across the country, holding
all three previously DA wards with increased majorities."
In the ANC-held ward in Magareng in the Northern Cape,
the DA's support increased fivefold since 2009.
From receiving 7.5% in 2009 in the ward, the DA received
38.8% of the votes cast on Wednesday.
"The result in Magareng is particularly significant,
since it shows that the DA is growing in areas that were once considered ANC
strongholds," said Maimane.
"We are pleased with these results. The DA continues
to grow in all communities across South Africa."
Results released by the Independent Electoral Commission
(IEC) on Thursday morning saw the ANC retain the three wards they held before
the by-elections.
