Johannesburg - Limpopo Education MEC Dickson Masemola barred the Democratic Alliance from entering and repairing a high school in Polokwane on Sunday, the party said.

"We came here today [Sunday] to celebrate Youth Day by repairing Kgabo High School.

"Unfortunately Education MEC Dickson Masemola barred us from entering the school today. It is a pity that, even on youth day, the MEC is putting politics above delivery," said DA Youth leader Mbali Ntuli.

Department spokesperson Pat Kgomo said the DA "was lying".

"It is a lie. The department never received any request from the DA about the event. We only heard [about it] this morning."

Ntuli said the school's principal, teachers, parents and school governing body were happy to welcome them, but Masemola had told the school superintendent in the area that they should not be allowed to help at the school.

"The MEC never gave anybody any instructions. There was no principal at the school," Kgomo said.
