DA wants Durban tycoon's firm blacklisted

2012-02-02 22:49

Durban - The Democratic Alliance wants prominent Durban businesswoman Shawn Mpisane’s company blacklisted and removed from the eThekwini Municipality's contractor database, it said on Thursday.

Mpisane faces charges of fraud, forgery and uttering involving R4.7m. She is out on bail of R50 000 and will appear again in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

She and her husband Sbu Mpisane, a former metro policeman, are known for being super-rich and have a fleet of cars that include a Rolls Royce Phantom and Lamborghinis.

The DA's caucus leader in the municipality, Tex Collins, said the fact that Mpisane had instituted a court action against the eThekwini Municipality was proof all was not well.

The Mercury newspaper reported that Mpisane had approached the KwaZulu-Natal High Court to force the municipality to lift the suspension of a multimillion-rand housing contract.

"We will immediately make a representation to have Mpisane's company blacklisted and removed from the municipal contractor data base once and for all," said Collins.

Gotta love this, when are people gonna learn that you earn your way through life and not steal, good riddance

Unfortunately, even if they are blacklisted they are still ANC cronies, and will find a back door to continue their corrupt ways.

      Gungets - 2012-02-03 12:56

Back door nothing. Shawns mother is an ANC councillor, or at least was. Not too sure now, but trust me, they go up the front path and in the main door. Their wedding anniversary was attended by all the big dogs, Mikie Sucklips, Sbu Ndebele, Logie Naidoo, the lot.

Hahaha! Isn't it a bit late for black listing.. The deed is done and dusted!

      Sean - 2012-02-03 04:19

if no action is taken now, how far would it go?

  • Sean - 2012-02-03 04:17

You have my full support on this one DA! Why hasn't the Assets Forfature Unit not taken action yet and confiscated all illegal belongings and impounded and crushed the vehicles yet, that would be fun to watch these vehicles being destroyed in front of their eyes seeing that it was accuired fraudulantly in the first place!?

      carpejugulim - 2012-02-03 06:54

Sean ... sell the vehicles on public auction and use the money to build decent houses that don't fall down in the first rain shower

The Mpisane's fortune should be seized forthwith. A very dodgy couple indeed, but with friends in high places.

I saw him at Macdonalds the other day in his giant rollsroyce, def was him as all their cars have edison numberplates. Just makes you feel ill at the sight of it.

      alan.govender - 2012-02-06 14:14

candiese, you are mistaking Edison power with Mpisane,Vivian Reddy owns Edison Power which is electrical contracting company and Mpisane builds RDP houses

  • Kit - 2012-02-03 09:27

If you see how these people live and flaunt wealth you will know all is not well. They need 24 hour armed guards at all entrences to their property.....I rest my case.

  • ludlowdj - 2012-02-03 10:54

Even if they are banned they will simply use their connections in the council to get tenders issued under another name. Durban while not the most corrupt municipality, is most certainly guilty of having both hands in the cookie jar

      Kevin - 2012-02-03 12:10

I disagree...fact a service provider supplying lightboxes for the station explained how they install/claim payment/go back remove/receive new tender/reinstall old lightboxes/claim payment/then remove them again...so the cycle continues unchecked.Absolutely amazes me what shenanigans contractors come up with to fleece the government!!!

So looks like he'll have to ask for his old job back. The services on the Rolls Royce will work out to a few months salary for Meesta and Meesus Mampara.
