Departments could go in cabinet shake up

Cape Town - ANC insiders confirmed this week that the party was in discussions over a possible change to the structure of government and that the 34-member cabinet could be reduced.

According to the Sunday Times, many senior ANC members argue that the government is too bloated. Some of the departments that could go include the Department of Women, Children and People with Disabilities and the Planning Department.

ANC national chairperson Baleka Mbete told the newspaper that she agreed with the criticism levelled at government about its size and said she did not think they were likely to keep things as they are.
