Johannesburg - The justice department says government will not review decisions by the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court of Appeals because that would be unconstitutional, the Saturday Star reported.

The department told Parliament on Friday that the research on judgments by the two courts was to look at their impact so the state could implement them quickly, the newspaper reported.

The department's deputy director for policy planning John Skosana told the justice and correctional services portfolio committee government had no intention of changing decisions of the courts.

He was briefing the committee on a study, initiated by former justice minister Jeff Radebe in 2011, to assess the impact of judgments by the two highest courts in South Africa upon the lives of citizens.

He said there was a lot of hysteria when government announced the study, conducted by the University of Fort Hare and the Human Sciences Research Council.

The research group would present its preliminary report at the end of October and a comprehensive report in March next year, the newspaper reported.
