'Don't blame SABC for Perlman'

Cape Town - SABC management can't be blamed for John Perlman's departure from the public broadcaster as there was nothing it could have done to compel the presenter to stay, the communications department said on Wednesday.
Replying to a parliamentary question by Democratic Alliance spokesperson Dene Smuts, deputy minister of communications Radhakrishna Padayachie said that, while it was sad the broadcaster had lost such a talented journalist, it would be unfair to pin any blame on management.
"It was sad we had to lose a respected journalist of that calibre, but unfortunately the situation we have before of us is that he had chosen to resign - he chose to do so because of his own position that he would be better off doing something different.
"It was not the SABC board's desire that he should have resigned," he said.
