Windhoek - An EFF delegation was briefly detained at the Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek when they arrived for the launch of the party's branch in Namibia, the City Press reported on Sunday.

"We tried to explain that we were from a Southern African Development Community country, but the officers said they had instructions," Economic Freedom Fighters MP Magdalene Moonsamy told the newspaper.

She was among those leading the delegation on Friday.

Moonsamy said they were asked to step aside by immigration officers when they arrived.

She claimed that the secretary-general of the ruling party, Swapo, had sent his wife to give immigration officers and police instructions to give them [the EFF] a hard time.

The publication reported that Swapo has ties with the African National Congress.

Meanwhile, the Namibia EFF was registered as a party and will be contesting Namibia's elections in November.
