Johannesburg - Gauteng community safety MEC Faith Mazibuko has been ordered to apologise to DA MPL Kate Lorimer for a comment she made about her earlier this year, according to a report on Wednesday.

Speaker of the provincial legislature, Lindiwe Maseko on Tuesday reprimanded Mazibuko saying her comment was "unparliamentary" and a personal attack against Lorimer, the Sowetan reported.

The DA lodged a complaint with Maseko after Mazibuko said Lorimer had lied and cheated in her exams when she was at school.

She made the comment in March after she was questioned about whether police had received instructions to downplay certain domestic violence cases.

Maseko discouraged legislature members against making personal remarks against each other.

"By inferring that (Lorimer) lied and even cheated during her exams at school, honourable Mazibuko impugned on member Lorimer's integrity," Maseko was quoted as saying.

Mazibuko sheepishly stood up and offered a brief apology to Lorimer, the newspaper reported.
