Johannesburg - Workers in Gauteng's state clinics are being targeted by striking public servants, Health MEC Sisi Mabe said on Thursday.
"Our clinics... are soft targets and support services such as laundry supply are being affected."
Mabe said the department was concerned about the increase of intimidation at its clinics.
"In some areas security is compromised and our staff is under siege."
However, she encouraged patients to continue using clinics, saying the department was working hard to ensure the safety of health workers and patients.
HIV/Aids and patients on chronic medication were encouraged to carry their patient cards and identity documents when visiting clinics.
Patients on antiretrovirals could call 0800-012-322 to get their medication, while chronic patients could call 0800-53-55-54 for assistance.
