Govt pays tribute to Deon du Plessis

Johannesburg - The government has learnt with deep sadness of the death of Daily Sun publisher Deon du Plessis, spokesperson Jimmy Manyi said on Monday.

"His illustrious career spanned many years at a number of publications," Manyi said.

"He will be remembered for his outstanding contributions to the publishing industry and journalism in South Africa."

As the founder of the Daily Sun, Du Plessis ensured that many more South Africans were able to have access to news and entertainment.

This contributed significantly to changing the newspaper landscape in the country, Manyi said.

Du Plessis died at the age of 59 from acute bronchitis at his home in Johannesburg on Sunday.

He leaves behind his wife Vanessa, daughter Daniella and two grandchildren.
