IFP calls for strike resolution

Johannesburg - The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) branches in Soweto on Saturday called for a speedy resolution to the ongoing public servant strike.

The party's Soweto chairperson, Dlangezwa Nvenase, said too many people have been affected by the strike.

"We sent our leaders to hospitals and clinics in different areas of Soweto to investigate the circumstances," he said.

Nvenase said President Jacob Zuma had promised, when he was elected, that every worker in the country would be happy.

"It is time for him to act on his promise," Nvenase said.

He said the branches met in Soweto on Saturday.

The other issues they looked at were service delivery and the development of hostels in Soweto.

Nvenase said the party had instructed its leadership to investigate the development of the hostels in Soweto inhabited by IFP members. They have to investigate if the residents would benefit from the development of the hostels.

The meeting also condemned the high rate of unemployment in the country and took a resolution that the present tender system had to be investigated.

"In too many cases the friends and family of ruling party members benefit from tenders," said Nvenase

"It is a problem if ordinary people can no longer be awarded a tender."
