Juju loses mojo in Limpopo

2012-09-30 18:34

Polokwane - The SA Communist Party (SACP) in Limpopo believes expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema’s support in the province has dwindled. It holds the view that Malema relies on “renting” crowds of ill-informed young people to support him publicly.

Unlike members of the ANC’s provincial executive committee, who came out to back Malema in court this week, the SACP and labour federation Cosatu in Limpopo believe Malema should face the full might of the law.

Only a fraction of the 15 000 people promised by Friends of the Youth League turned up for the Wednesday evening vigil in support of Malema.

SACP provincial secretary Gilbert Kganyago said while more than 2 000 people showed up to support Malema at a vigil, Malema’s support in the province and the ANC alliance was not as good as it seemed.

“If Malema had any considerable support, the ANC members at the policy conference would have resolved to have him returned to active politics, but that didn’t happen,” Kganyago said.

“He is renting crowds because his supporters are disappointed in him for looting the province with impunity.

He doesn’t have as much support any more since he was expelled and it’s all because people are really disappointed in him.

“This province is supposed to be Malema’s power base, but he knows he no longer commands the support he used to because of the purging of alliance leaders in government positions.”

Cosatu provincial secretary Dan Sebabi echoed Kganyago’s sentiments.

Both Cosatu and the SACP were happy that Malema and his business partners had been charged.

That’s not to say Malema is utterly at sea: he is known to be supported by some members of the ANC national executive committee, including treasurer-general Mathews Phosa, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula and Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale.

A big test of Malema’s support will be whether the Friends of the Youth League can raise the money to settle his tax bill.

The SA Revenue Service obtained a R16m judgement last week against him for unpaid taxes.

The Friends of the Youth League announced on Thursday that it would open a trust account dedicated to paying Malema’s tax bill.

last time i checked sacp did not exist in Limpoo, now who are these clowns and what else have they ever said in last 12 months?

      husaberg.twostroke - 2012-09-30 19:04

Vetgat malema se dae is getel.

      jock.black.50 - 2012-09-30 20:08

Bob Marley said: "you can fool some of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time." Malema supporters are slowly seeing him for what he really is, he has not created 1 single solution for SA, only chaos, divide and hate. The people and ministers who are still supporting Malema have the same rotten character.

      Ditantane - 2012-10-01 01:22

sean up to which do you consider a person education, and what's your academic status.

      karen.perkswoodward - 2012-10-01 06:07

I think Sean uses the word 'uneducated' as a euphemism for 'stupid'. Only stupid people repeat the same action (voting for the ANC) and expect a different result (service delivery). 6 of the 9 education departments are under administration i.e. poor management!

      ayub.sayed.750 - 2012-10-01 07:59

I dont know where you have been checking my brother but i think you need to look a bit deeper than you have. The SACP is not part of the alliance because they only exist in one province, they are an alliance partner because they exist all over the country and because they carry weight.

      ditantane.kganakga - 2012-10-01 09:56

@ayub just tell me one thing they did in the past ten years that make them to carry weight, and am talking about the sacp in Limpopo because this article is about comment made by the alleged sacp in Limpopo. read the article first then my comment and you can comment don't just comment on peoples comments without reading the actual article.

      thabang.bonang.7 - 2012-10-01 14:44

SACP and COSATU are on Zuma site and it is expected that whoever is perceived to be anti-Zuma will be targeted. Especially Malema who has been vocal about their baas. I am interested to know how these alliance partners would reply to issues Malema raised on their baas about His Zumaville, morals, corrupt charges. Not forgetting the most recent issue of the revamping of His palace which is even making Queen Elizabeth consider becoming one of our President's wives.

  • keith.recore - 2012-09-30 19:58

wonder how many computers/libraries/desks/books or adding staff at clinics if FofYL concentrated on rasing money for those things instead of covering tax burden, at best, of "questionable" business practices/dealings by Malema?

  • hannah.p.mostert - 2012-09-30 20:01

One of his own people is going to kill him to make an example out of him, don't try to fool us anymore Juju we know you are a thief and now the people will decide on your fate, Gaddafi style, just wait people of South Africa are tired of this robbing from ANC comrades.

  • Bluemoscow - 2012-09-30 20:06

The SACP Is just trying to implement this so called anti malema propaganda so people of this country might want to deviate from julius malema .failed plot try again. Probably paid by the ANC To bad mouth malema like it is doing to the media. Some of this media news are bribed to bad mouth malema including the hawks why the sudden interest on our leader Julius malema? The judges of the malem trial must also be investigated during the trial by an independed investigator i don't trust them. Jacob zuma may have already bribed them in advance

      brendon.napier - 2012-09-30 23:15

You need to get into your own power and get out of the thinking of needing a leader

      frankflower - 2012-10-02 01:09

    We don't belive you

  • hartmut.gneiting - 2012-09-30 20:49

By the way Sars doesn't need to obtain judgements, they can issue them themselves. And with the new Tax Administration Bill they have the right to search and seize without a warrant! I think tis is much more interesting than the whole fuss about Malema. He is just one of them who just became uncomfortable for his bodies.

  • Bluemoscow - 2012-09-30 20:53

@zamani.myende, Ya something fishy about this news24 and citypress. When a person post positive comments about malema they get 15 thumbs down in less than 30 seconds, but when people talk against him or talks good about the Anc you see 20 thumbs up in less than a minute. I THINK the Anc hired people to work on this forum to give them support and citypress is one of them busy attacking julius malema

      Duncan Colter - 2012-10-01 08:20

Malema has more detractors than friends. Especially among the educated who do not fall for his lies. That's why the negative comments and stories are popular. Only bullies like bullies.

  • ntshuxeko.mashaba - 2012-09-30 23:41

unless they talk something about juju, these guys are so quite.south africa is never like zimbabwe where zanupf is automatically guaranteed a win.anc has to deliver else, they will be an opposition party in the country they proudly led after the fall of the white minority rule.

  • tommo.too - 2012-10-01 00:19

16 million in unpaid tax. A house for 150 million. Malema is a criminal and that's the end of it.
