Durban - The KwaZulu-Natal ANC is proud of the newly elected
leaders of the party, provincial chairperson Zweli Mkhize said on Saturday.
"We feel especially honoured as KwaZulu-Natal to host
the very important 101st national anniversary of the African National
Congress," he told several thousand ANC members gathered at Kings Park
stadium in Durban for the celebrations.
"We feel the ANC has given us an honour, because every
province wants to host this."
Mkhize was elected African National Congress national
treasurer-general at the party’s elective conference in Mangaung in December.
During the opening address of the celebrations, Zweli
greeted the ANC's alliance members, the national executive committee, the rest
of the top six, the ANC leagues and former ANC deputy president Kgalema
Motlanthe.
He thanked the ANC members who could not make it to the
conference in Mangaung, and supported the party "through the TVs and
radios".
The province also supported the call to "root out bad
tendencies" in the party.
