Johannesburg - Former gangster and the newest player in the political game, Kenny Kunene, has accused Public Protector Thuli Madonsela of being in the Democratic Alliance’s pocket.

The general secretary of the newly formed Patriotic Alliance accused Madonsela of failing to probe service delivery and maladministration complaints against the DA-led Western Cape government, The Star reported.

Kunene accused the protector of ignoring complaints from PA members against the DA.

He also found it suspicious that Madonsela was seemingly quick to investigate cases brought to it by the DA and said it was as if she was “on the DA’s speed dial”.

Madonsela is expected reveal on 9 February the date on which she will release her Nkandla investigation report.

In 2012, Madonsela found nothing unlawful about the Western Cape government's awarding of a R70m contract to an advertising agency.

Kunene, a political butterfly, has gone from being an ANC member, to head of campaigns, mobilisation, and special projects for Julius Malema's Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), to starting his own party.

Kunene was jailed from 1997 to 2003 after being convicted of running a ponzi scheme.
