Lekota supporters barred from offices

2011-01-19 12:42

Johannesburg - The Mosiuoa Lekota-aligned faction of the Cope youth movement was on Wednesday barred from their offices by security guards allegedly employed by the Mbhazima Shilowa faction.

"They deployed security guards to prevent anyone from entering," said Youth Movement first deputy president Lesego Sentsho at the Metropolitan Building in Johannesburg.

Burly men in black suits stood guard outside the door to the Cope offices, preventing anyone from entering.

Sentsho said an "explosive" announcement was set to be made at the briefing.

Journalists and a handful of Cope Youth members were now making their way to another floor of the building to hold the briefing.

The party remains locked in a power struggle between co-founders Lekota, who is apparently the party's leader, and Shilowa, Cope's first deputy president.

Can ANC please take Shilowa back. He is really a pain. His intentions are to make sure that COPE does not survive. Shilowa, please go back to ANC or look for a job as a security guard. Please I am begging you with tears in my eyes.

serious because I heard that there are rumors saying ANC MPs are funding Shilowa

The circuis goes on. Why was this micky mouse party formed in the first place. Lekota and Shilowa have been angry since December 2007 (Polokwane Conference). They said they were divorcing the ANC in 2008, now they are divorcing each other. All those who were misled to leave the ANC, must come back. You can't cope without ANC.

not that fucken ANC with a presedent who uses dickhead to think, thats why he's got lot of kids

Yes, let's have a one party democracy and after that, let's close down all restaurants except the KFC because then we will get better service if they have no competition. We can then focus on giving people longer holidays and more money for less work. And I suggest then we start printing more money so everybody can be rich. Very clever. Amen

What a joke of a party. Mr Mbeki was very smart not to publicly endorse these clowns. The man is a smooth operator.

What a wonderful bunch these are ! @jackie - a security guard is too complicated Ashamed to be a south african with this sort of thing going on

  • Mizer - 2011-01-19 13:23

Oh Cope of no Hope!!!what a shame.maybe forom an alliance with DA and Patricia...Still dont see you shaking the ANC.

  • The-man-who - 2011-01-19 14:00

Shilowa can look for a job as a Security since well he has experience. Our ANC does not want such people like Shilowa nor Lekota who are power hungry and want to clinge to power forever.

  • Jackie - 2011-01-19 14:02

I am very disgusted at these idiots that rally behind Shilowa. Can't they see that the guy is on a mission to distroy COPE. If he was not on a mission he was gonna allow Lekota to be the president of COPE for at least one term and see what happens next. But no, not the ANC funded security guard.

  • The-man-who - 2011-01-19 14:03

@Dwet, you are entitled to your own opinion and you can vote for whomever you want for all we care. Vote for your FF+, DA or whatever party you want to vote for and they are the official opposition parties so what's with the one party democracy? You can always go to Australia boet.

It is amazing how much respect I had for both men unti they decided to form factions in the ANC and eventually resigned to form the madness called 'COPE'. Even though I was very angry initially with their behaviour but they are still my elders who served this country and black people so well. With COPE or not the last thing we need is to see both of them snapping each other in public. I am ANC through and through because this is the organisation for the people. Yes, we have our own internal problems but to see COPE fightig over a simple thing as positions is really disturbing. We all lile competition. I regard COPE as my affidant to curb the ANC corruption (constructively). So if COPE let it voters down who exactly will be the genuine opposition to the my ANC to benchmark against because in can never and will never be the DA. Never, ever! Not even in a million years. Shilowa please accept the results of the democratic process and rather concentrate on serving your party to the best of your abilities. We will never forget that you built Gautrain and we commend you for that. If you want to walk away from politics walk away with at least half of our pride. We want to remember you as the guy who brought us Gautrain against all odds. Take leave and Lekota run with COPE. Who knows mabe one day COPE wil get its acts together and yiu can always come back. This is African way of doing politics. We want dialogue. We welcome opposition. Help Lekota build COPE instead of destroying it!

  • James - 2011-01-19 14:46

Let them fight until COPE comes down. Lekota is an idiot whilst Shilowa is an energetic power hungry soldier. Lekota's political life all the years had been under the wing of Thabo Mbeki
