Malema files papers in Zille defamation case

2012-04-24 17:31

Cape Town - Embattled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema filed responding papers on Tuesday in a defamation case lodged by DA leader Helen Zille, her lawyer said.

Attorney Amanda Torr said Malema, ANCYL spokesperson Floyd Shivambu, Khayelitsha councillor Andile Lili and the ANCYL filed papers on Tuesday afternoon. Lili's attorney Thobelani Sibiya confirmed that he had filed.

Torr said a court date had not yet been set.

Two weeks ago, Western Cape High Court Judge Nathan Erasmus ordered the four to file papers in response to Zille's R1.4m lawsuit for comments they had made about her and the Democratic Alliance in 2009.

Zille said Shivambu had called her a "racist girl" and had claimed that her all-male executive consisted of her boyfriends and concubines.

She also took issue with Malema calling her executive council a "group of racist Helen Zille garden boys" and referring to her as "racist", "colonialist" and "imperialist".

The group had yet to apologise or retract the statements.

Wonder who is paying for this one Juliaas??

      Squeegee - 2012-04-24 17:46

Soon he will be all alone (except for Papa) as his friends jump ship when the money runs out. Former friends will line up to cut a deal with SARS, the HAWKS, and the Boy Scouts...

      Lyndatjie - 2012-04-24 17:47

ANCYL... he said it while in their capacity and they haven't upheld the suspension yet and the ANCYL categorically stated that they will not let him go.... (And lets face it - with SARS yapping at his heels - this young man is now in serious dwang!)

  • Nicholas - 2012-04-24 17:41

I would love to know what is written in responding papers to those accusations.

      siyadyosiba - 2012-04-24 18:01

I think its acknowledgement of receipt of the allegations, a statement that says they do not agree with what has been alleged against Malema and will present their case in court. There shouldn't be anything much.

      Neels - 2012-04-24 18:17

      Sorry miesies

  • Jamie Hilsdon - 2012-04-24 17:42

He always seems to respond at the last possible moment every time, I believe it goes to show a lack of respect for anyone who does not agree with his view point or the judicial system. This is not a good quality in a leader

  • Jean - 2012-04-24 17:43

ANCYL cronies are good, building up all the suspense and then bam they bum us out by filing the papers... Now Zille must just cream the little pee brains!!!

      Theo - 2012-04-24 21:02

And she will... trust me she will

  • glen.e.huysamer - 2012-04-24 17:44

They will probably be scheduled to appear in court during the ANC electral thing, later this year. Divide to conquer. Good strategies, if not he will be arrested for tax fraud.

  • Tumisang - 2012-04-24 17:46

My respect for Hellen Zille has deteriorated to all time low...this is irrational and just seeking attention...

      Steven Trollip - 2012-04-24 17:52

@tumisang.ek wonder wie is dit wat uintlik aandag soek?

      Nigel - 2012-04-24 18:00

I see, so you wouldn't mind being called a slut & a racist by the DA then, what you ignore is that this is what a prominent so called leader said about another prominent leader, this is not acceptable, no matter how biased or blind you are.

      bluzulu - 2012-04-24 18:00

More is expected of all the "Leaders" involved in this fiasco. Who's got time for petty politicking. We Want.......

      catgirl1971 - 2012-04-24 18:25

Oh! So I suppose you won't be offended then if someone referred to you by using the derogatory 'K' word then?

      Lerato - 2012-04-24 19:38

As a leader of DA Zille must have pressing issues to deal with not this junk; I can't imagine Zuma going around suing name calling people

      Lerato - 2012-04-24 19:55

@Ron it wasn't Zuma who sued; any president in the world deserves protection what if it was an acid or something dangerous! Anyway it was the presidential guard that pressed charges. Pres Zuma is busy running one of the best countries in the world, he doesn't have time for hogwash

      Patiwe - 2012-04-24 21:20

Lerato don't you know Zapiro and his story about lady justice?

      Patsy - 2012-04-24 22:01

Tumisang, I respect your right to your opinion, however, who has hogged all the publicity - and got the prize for it? NOT Helen Zille. Think before you open your mouth......

      Lerato - 2012-04-24 23:35

@Patiwe that was offensive to rape victims, if you remember well it were rape activists who attacked that cartoon. Not many people find rape amusing, so was that cartoon funny to you?

  • Juan - 2012-04-24 17:53

What a horrible life Juju has, only consisting of courts, appeals, filing papers, apeal againg and on and on and on!! Doesn't he ever get tired??

      siyadyosiba - 2012-04-24 18:02

Its a really a hard life for this young man. He brought it to himself afterall.

  • eblockwatch - 2012-04-24 17:54

From Tea girl to President and Malema from President to.....

  • Nigel - 2012-04-24 17:56

why only R 1.4 should have been R14 mil

  • siyadyosiba - 2012-04-24 18:11

This young man is living a miserable life. In and out of courts, internal disciplinary hearings, expulsion, SARS, Hawks. No this is too much.

      Christelle - 2012-04-24 19:08

See and you shall find. He brought this upon himself!

  • Thabo - 2012-04-24 18:17

We all deserves to be treated with respect. No matter who you are and what you do for a living. The young man has stepped on most peoples toes and unfortunately he was never taught that power comes with responsibility. His Lawyer can see he is not blessed with brains to think. He could have apologised and retracted his statement and there will have no need to go to court. In fact he will not have said such things.

  • Lerato - 2012-04-24 19:29

I feel sorry for our learned judges, being subjected to these useless issues!! No wonder why big crimes like murder, rape, robbery takes long to be settled, all because our courts are busy with useless junk like this. Politicians please !!

  • Johan - 2012-04-24 19:31

On the downward slippery slope we continue in ignorant bliss

  • Emily-Jane Elson - 2012-04-24 20:07

But Floyd Shivambu can call a woman a White Bitch, apologize and be forgiven? Seems unfair..

  • Patsy - 2012-04-24 21:54

Fo for it, Helen! Nail the fatso.....

  • Tanie - 2012-06-14 16:58

Pay up fat boy and company, dumb ass pricks which serve no purpose to all life on earth. They are just taking up valuable space on our planet and using up earth's limited resources. Just think, that we can put 2 educated people in the places of fat boy and co. this would then benefit our planet
