Malema group just a faction - Sasco

2012-07-25 17:14

Johannesburg - A group calling itself Friends of the Youth League is nothing more than a factional group, the SA Students Congress (Sasco) said on Wednesday.

"We are deeply angered and saddened by activities of some ill-disciplined individuals calling themselves the Friends of the Youth League," Sasco said in a statement.

"[They] are hell bent on weakening the image, stature and reputation of the ANC and its leadership."

The student organisation said the group was a consortium of bitter people who were being petty.

"Hence we like to refer to them as a petty-crowd."

Friends of the Youth League was established shortly after former ANC Youth League president Julius Malema was expelled from the ANC.

It organises events around the country at which Malema can address supporters.

Earlier this week the ANCYL in Gauteng said it was distancing itself from the group. It said it was concerned by the ANCYL's national executive committee's silence on the group and urged it to publicly announce where it stood.

Sasco said it was disgusted that Friends of the Youth League was holding meetings on campuses around the country and had launched itself at the Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha, Eastern Cape.

"We will instruct our structures to close campuses for this grouping, they must hold their meetings in the sky," said Sasco.

"We want to further tell our membership and all our structures to not be found anywhere close to this grouping."

Sasco said it remained a strategic alliance partner of the ANCYL and would guard it against "problematic characters" defining themselves as friends.

WATCHOUT Mr Malema, here comes SASCO, I am very concern with the ANCYL skeleton leadership under Cdr R Lamola, cant we put Vote of no confidence on them and request NEC for new leadership all together. Maybe ANCYL is holding back Lamola and Moonsammy, they want to travel around thecountry with Shivambu, Magaqa, Malema and Winnie.

  • castro.anzi - 2012-07-25 17:58

South African Constitution gurantees the rights of every citizen to express views, associate, assemble anywhere in South Africa under the sun. Being expelled from the ANC does not mean those expelled waive their fundamental rights. The Zuma faction seem not prepared to understand this simple fact hence fear & anger every time Malema participate in public affairs. To be isolated by a faction led by a serial polygamist would never mean that one is cursed from society & dictators must get this very clearly

Finally some very constructive reasoning from Sasco well done guys, it is always folly to equate ill-discipline to radicalism, I hope these rogue youngsters are listening to this wise counsel, they must be bound by the rules of their organisations as they have not been forced to join but had done so voluntarily, similarly, they must not try to cause commotion and confusion simply because they have been expelled for gross indiscipline, they are the ones who authored their own problems

      Michael - 2012-07-25 19:11

Malema has been given space to talk and do what ever he want to do with his life, i dont think its the question of being afraid of him, the problem is that there are members of Ancyl who are supporting ellien tendencies while connected to ANC, every organization has a right to protect itself when under attack.

  • mantsho.tlali - 2012-07-25 19:02

This one ANC will do anything in their power to sort it because it is all about power, Julius Malema wants the young people to get rid of Zuma and he is also campaigning for Motlanthe.

I just love SA politics. They provide such an entertainment...Zuma, Malema,Shaik, Selebi,ANCYL, SASCO. I wonder who the next villain will be. But I'll put my money on Tokyo. This is far better than Dark Man and The Avengers.

      sam.ntshangase - 2012-07-25 20:41

it looks like you are following the worst villain, something disjointed in your head, you seem to follow tokyo cause his rich, go back and do research on tokyo, you will be ashamed of yourself. go back and analyse the argument between tokyo and holomisa back in the late 90s , why tokyo resigned as premier, why tokyos visa was banned by cia in the 90s you will be ashamed of yourself, fortunately we have kids to nurture, we dont want to see our kids being victims of drugs, though luck with your tokyo. cyril is a man of intergrity and future president

Julius, just an advice, next time before you take off your gloves againts the sitting head of state and the president of an organization that is 100 years old, you gotta be sure that you have what it takes, Mbalula made it againts Mbeki because he had Cosatu, SACP,The Whole ANCYL with him, i hope you did not use that previous success as a catalist to start war againts Zuma, also please dont bank on Motlanthe, he is very loyal to Zuma, that why he is second in command, you are in for a very big suprise come Mangaung.

  • joel.mafolo - 2012-07-31 18:20

SASCO is not an ANC structure and is simply a lobby group. Real power lies with the ANC Youth League and definitely not with these ones who just sit next to fax machine or have table ready for a press conference. There are so many things going wrong at SA tertiary instituttions nad these SASCO guys are only happy organising parties. As long as they are given money for booze and braais they are fine.
