Malema 'has not broken any law'
Johannesburg - ANC youth league president Julius Malema has not breached any law or code of ethics by being involved in business, the ruling party said on Sunday.
In response to Sunday newspaper reports detailing Malema's involvement in businesses that received government tenders in Limpopo of up to R140m, ANC spokesperson Brian Sokutu said the youth leader was not at fault.
"The ANC has noted Sunday reports detailing Comrade Julius Malema's interests, but Comrade Malema is neither a member of Parliament or a Cabinet minister and he has therefore not bridged (sic) any law or code of ethics by being involved in business," he said.
But Sokutu added that the ANC was still "grumbling" with an idea of coming up with a code of conduct to be adhered to by its senior cadres who have business interests.
ANC youth league spokesperson Floyd Shivambu said the organisation would be calling a press briefing on Monday or Tuesday to clarify the lifestyle reports around its president.
"The notice will be out before 12 [midnight] today [Sunday]," he said.
