Malema lambastes Zuma in lecture

2012-07-27 14:40

Johannesburg - Axed ANC Youth League head Julius Malema has lambasted President Jacob Zuma, The Times reported on Friday.

The paper said Malema was scheduled to deliver a public lecture at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology on former president Nelson Mandela on Thursday, but instead used the podium to criticise Zuma.

Malema labelled Zuma a "questionable leader", saying he was a laughing stock internationally who got married every December and used his culture to promote his multiple marriages.

"Zuma is a polygamist [who] undermined the rights of women," Malema was quoted as saying.

He also accused Zuma of avoiding the opportunity to answer to charges of corruption for which his former financial adviser, Schabir Schaik, was jailed.

The charges against Zuma were dropped.

Praise for Motlanthe

Malema praised the leadership skills of Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe.

"[He] takes the office of the [deputy] president very seriously."

The attack on Zuma's lifestyle was the second in the past week.

Speaking on a pre-recorded television youth show, African National Congress stalwart Winnie Madikizela-Mandela questioned how Zuma could promote the idea of one sexual partner to the youth when he had multiple wives.

The show is due to be broadcast in September.

President Zuma this week brushed off this criticism in a radio interview, saying it was "not wise to discuss personal things, unless those things impact on what you do".

This what Malema said before Zuma was President , and he was still a polygamist "ANC Youth League (ANCYL) President Julius Malema has vowed that the youth of South Africa would die in supporting ANC President Jacob Zuma. "We are prepared to die for Zuma," Malema told a Free State rally. "We are prepared to take up arms and kill_ for Zuma," Malema added at the end of his speech, while the crowd clapped hands and laughed. Earlier, Malema said there was no question that the ANC president would be the country's next president. He added that those who did not respect the current ANC leadership should go. Malema said those in the party who have indicated that they would not be available for positions in the new government, under Zuma, should not wait but leave now. He also reiterated that the Scorpions case against Zuma, expected to begin later this year in the Pietermaritzburg High Court, should be dropped. "The future belongs to us. We do not want a situation where the state prosecutes its own president," Malema said. He said the ANCYL was planning to assemble a legal team to try to get the case against Zuma thrown out of court. " Screw you Malema

Its really a fantastic example of a politician literally saying anything, hoping to drum up support for himself.

      itumeleng.mogaki - 2012-07-27 16:11

Screw him indeed, this bloody loud mouth, don't know why they still cover whatever crap that comes out of his mouth. He must just disappear. What he is saying now is nothing we have not heard or known before.

      liana.loots - 2012-07-27 16:14

Thusla, thank you. there are many people who share your opinion, but we still need to be rational and get rid of Zuma who is not worthy of leading a great country like ours. It does not matter who Malema promotes as his chosen favourite, we as the people must make a choice that will be good for us. We have to choose carefully this time around.

      nigel.vanysendyk - 2012-07-27 17:44

wow, very powerful piece Thusla, well said, it just shows how the cut & paste king (condom comrade) changes his tune to suit himself, this guy has no morals, no integrity, no honesty, everything he says (he never DOES anything) is a lie, if this guy EVER gets his hands on power, he will be the worst dictator the world has seen in a long time, this I promise you!!!!!

      phuti.hlabane - 2012-07-27 18:21

I'm worried now cos a whole of news24 folks are going to vote for ANC,meaning they shall rule until the end of time.that is bad for our country.

      rob.tubbs.39 - 2012-07-27 18:26

      Well said my man...

      Jellyarse - 2012-07-27 18:28

TO BE READ IN MAGNETIC ROBOTIC TONES PLEASE! Hallo! My name is Julius. I will do anything you ask and say anything you want, in fact I will even die for you. Please shoot me - I really want to prove how brainless and stupid I really am!

      deabreu - 2012-07-27 19:18

It is just politics. All politicians play the card that suits the best for them at that time. The ANCs latest card is the rcaist card, and they are attacking white men so that they get votes. This is what malema did in the past as well. So politicans all play the same evil little game. Someone has to be attacked so they become popular.

      husaberg.twostroke - 2012-07-27 21:05

Malema looks like a mad man and contradicts himself over and over again. Whys is this imbecile still in the news?

      Andre - 2012-07-28 05:39

thusla, you are quite right in your summary of Malema. We should never forget that being a politician is the most selfish occupation there is. They say and do what is good for themselves and not for the people they represent!

      edward.patterson.923 - 2012-07-28 15:35

"We are prepared to die for Zuma," Malema told a Free State rally. "We are prepared to take up arms and kill_ for Zuma," Malema added at the end of his speech, while the crowd clapped hands and laughed. So Julius is preparing for Civil War?

      farmfreund - 2012-07-28 15:37

i am starting to enjoy this guy, he can talk a lot of sh@t but he sometimes hit the nail on the head Go Juju vertel die bois

  • julian.booyens - 2012-07-27 14:51

You made sense here for a change, but please it is time for you to shut up now

      Squeegee - 2012-07-27 18:07

Julius even abused the opportunity ...: "The paper said Malema was scheduled to deliver a public lecture at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology on former president Nelson Mandela on Thursday, but instead used the podium to criticise Zuma."

      wesley.nel.5 - 2012-07-28 08:21

Is this the new way of sounding inteligent for the ANC, rather than saying he held a speech, now they called it a lecture. You don't say ANC and lecture in the same sentence

  • BigChiefPlumbPudding - 2012-07-27 14:54

Ha Ha - and the madness goes around, comes around, and goes around, and..................

  • lerato.kay.3 - 2012-07-27 15:01

Attack Zuma on his political policies not his personal life, polygamy is enshrined in our constitution and so is gay union. I don’t like both but I respect people’s choices, please stop the double standards there are a section who are pro-gay and some pro-polygamy why pick and discredit one. If you discredit polygamy then don’t accuse people who condemn gay marriages.

      jeffrey.mnisi - 2012-07-27 15:29

Would youmind to quote the section of the constitution

      lerato.kay.3 - 2012-07-27 15:44

Look for The Recognition of Customary Marriages Act, its there in black and white. SA is one of the most liberal countries in the world giving rights to polygamy and gay lovers. So there you go its very legal hope you will stop attacking people who practise this act.Funny enough the so called educated people have no problem with gays and demonise polygamy which is practiced by the so called illiterate villagers. If you want these people to respect gay people you must also in turn respect polygamy which is well covered by our law. At the end of the day I wonder who is a bigot!

      dee.980 - 2012-07-27 17:03

Well stated Lerato. It makes NO sense to attack Zuma on polygamy when there are 100's of significant LEADERSHIP reasons to do so.

      charlfrancoismarais2205 - 2012-07-28 09:00

Lerato, you miss a crucial piece of info there - any constitutional right may be limited if it is deemed fair and reasonable. Now, ask the MAJORITY of women, without fear of reprisal, whether they believe polygamy infringes on women's rights or not. JZ is having his cake and eating it at the expense of many, many others, as usual. He is a figurehead of what is WRONG with this country.

  • richard.zanner - 2012-07-27 15:29

I see one thing and that is that Malema is now openly challenging Zuma which means he no longer believes he needs the goodwill of Zuma which means he believes he has other backers behind him and that Zuma is of no consequence anymore. If this is true then I suppose we can expect the end of Zuma (which is really not the end of the world) but the worry is who will replace him. Every time I see a picture of Malema and see his eyes I get shivers down my spine. HE has as much emotion in his eyes as my pet snake.

  • mknnko003 - 2012-07-27 15:31

  • joao.r.oliveira1 - 2012-07-27 15:31

Fact is Zuma was already a polygamist at the time when Julius was saying that he was prepared to "kill for Zuma". So Zuma may be a polygamist, that is true and is despicable, but Julius is a hypocrite, who would you rather back?

'We will kill_ for Zuma' June 17 2008 at 07:04am -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ANC Youth League (ANCYL) President Julius Malema has vowed that the youth of South Africa would die in supporting ANC President Jacob Zuma. chikunga - 2012-07-27 16:50

and Sello can you please explain how is this nonsense. That some(not all) african culture still practice polgamy and its not wrong in their culture.for respect's sake that might not how you were brought up and in your culture(culture being dynamic)you have evolved into a more westernised culture but that does not imply all the derogatory terms implied on Zuma's culture.the hate in most commentaries speaks a lot about how most civilised races view black people rather than their culture.if the are civilised shouldnt that imply respect of other people's culture.and by above reasoning I can construe that its more than the polgamy maybe tribal or racial

Of course Zuma's personal conduct impacts on his public performance. The man has no morals and no ethics and this is being experienced by each and every South African who has to face crime on a daily basis. Zuma is too busy nurturing his burgeoning family to do much by way of presidential duties. It is a known fact that a son and nephew owe millions for their mismanagement of their financial affairs. Zuma has had years to shape up - he evidently cannot - so its time for him to ship out. Before he destroys what's left of our country.

Dear Julius, how many wives did Zuma have before he chucked you out for your loose cannon way of doing things? Why was it not a problem then? As valid as your points maybe on certain issues, nobody gives a damn because it comes from a selfish agenda of trying to get reinstated!! That's ALL you are interested in! You don't care about the masses, you are invited to talk about Madiba, you use that forum to push your own agenda and drag the names of the organisers into disrepute! Believe me, who ever the next president will be, he won't be voted in because of you, if anything he/she may lose votes if you continue opening your mouth. Zuma has done nothing that you were not a part of, if anything he's a better man ever since kicking you out! If u love the ANC so much, sow unity not division! You are now forcing people to listen to you by using invitations to push selfish agendas, didn't you spoil a couple's wedding again last week? BTW, who are you representing?
