Malema not selling clothes - ANCYL
Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League distanced itself from a Sunday newspaper report claiming its president Julius Malema would be selling clothing featuring his name at the party's centenary celebrations.
Spokesperson Floyd Shivambu called the Sunday Sun's report "untrue, disingenuous and grossly misleading".
"President Julius Malema will not be selling any clothing item at the centenary celebrations of the ANC as suggested by the Sunday Sun," he said.
The paper published an article on what it called "the launch of Julius Malema's latest project - A fashion label".
The launch of the label - apparently featuring berets, T-shirts, sunglasses, watches, and children's items - was confirmed to the paper by designer Obakeng Ramabodu.
All the items made under the fashion label would apparently bear the "Juju" designer logo, the paper reported.
Shivambu said the newspaper was aware that "[Malema] is not associated with any clothing label and has never given approval of his name 'Julius Malema' to be a name of any clothing brand."
He said the ANCYL would demand a full retraction from the paper, which they want to be published on the front page.
