Malema retracts polygamy statement

2010-09-18 15:28
Johannesburg - ANC Youth League president Julius Malema has retracted his statement about polygamous relationships, made at the league's 66th birthday celebrations in Heilbron, the SABC reported on Saturday.

Malema, accompanied by former youth league president Fikile Mbalula, held a meeting with King Goodwill Zwelithini at KwaNongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natal, to explain his statement that couples should only have one partner.

Malema claimed his statement was distorted and that it was not directed at President Jacob Zuma or Zulus in general.

Zwelithini said he was satisfied with Malema's statement that he did not mean to attack traditions, it was reported.

He added that the public did not expect reckless statements from a youth leader.

Meanwhile, Malema said ill-discipline would not be tolerated within the organisation.
