Matthews Phosa calls for SA discipline

2012-04-07 17:45

Johannesburg - Discipline, in both the private and political realm, was needed to take South Africa forward, ANC treasurer general Mathews Phosa said on Saturday.

"In South Africa today we need discipline, cohesion and unity of vision by the leaders of our nation on priority matters that can either take us forward with speed or derail us," he said in a speech prepared for delivery in Attridgeville, Pretoria.

Phosa was speaking at the funeral of Mpumalanga ANC activist Dr Nkate Philemon Thabo Mamoepa who died on Monday after a long illness.

Phosa said the 100-year-old ANC had achieved its political goal by gaining power, but needed to ensure that economic liberation followed political liberation.

He said economic freedom needed to be urgently addressed through the creation of jobs and opportunities for entrepreneurs. In addition, the small business sector needed to be liberalised and a broader model of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment needed to be developed.

Phosa called for better skills and education for all, and "the creation of hope in our future".

Thats true. As it stands now ANC is its credibility because of the corrupt and greedy leaders.

  • AlphaMe - 2012-04-07 18:00

"a broader model of Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment is needed" I have an idea, how about Broader Based Black Economic Empowerment?

      AlphaMe - 2012-04-07 18:24

May I suggest replacing “Broader” with ‘Border’, which might help prevent much xenophobia and/or refugees getting work before SA citizens?

      jacques.koorts - 2012-04-07 18:32

BBBEE already exists. You're talking of Broader Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment, which is BBBBEE

So long as the anc is in charge, there can be nothing but derailment. Phosa, tell you buddies to stop stealing the taxpayers money and while you're about it, put some people in charge who have the capabilities to run a country. Voetsek!

I think the ANC has done a great job in liberating the masses of this Country, I now believe the time has come for the masses to liberate themselves.

  • CombiChrist - 2012-04-07 19:13

Just a group in my opinion

  • Andrew - 2012-04-07 19:20

William why is it that the Pakistanis, Indians, Somalis, and others come here with nothing and can make a living only to have our locals to loot and steal from them at any feeble opportunity possible??? They have no network nothing other than a work ethic. You may say what you will but please give me examples. There are many more millions impoverished Indians and Chinese that do not even get social freeby grants.

  • ivan.ferreira - 2012-04-07 19:21

I assume he is referring to discipline within the ANC - the rest of South Africa is doing great thank you very much.

  • jaco.barkhuizen - 2012-04-07 20:39

Yes, maybe the ANC should stop with renaming everything and wasting millions, and actually use their 'power' to do something. Also interesting to note that the ANC wanted to be in power, not just liberate all South Africans. Makes you think doesn't it?

  • Denrick - 2012-04-07 21:02

Phosa, don't speak to the public. Speak to people who \confiscate\ cold drinks and snacks in the name of democracy. Speak to people identifying buildings for governmental use. Speak to people who fail to deliver service. In short, speak to your kind, not to us: the honest Tax Payer!

  • Hummy - 2012-04-07 21:45

Mr Phosa just call spide a spide we all know that you are reffering to the ANC sir!!!

  • Raymond - 2012-04-08 08:00

DISCIPLINE is a forgotten word in South Africa.Let's start with discipline on our roads. Can anyone explain to me what economic freedom means. It is common knowledge that in municipal and government sectors dealing in tenders there IS economic freedom. If this government does'nt take a grip on discipline very soon, this country is Doomed, sorry to say but,the signs are there already,it is only a matter of time.SAD...SAD state of affairs. This was such a great country going down the drain.COMMON SENSE AND COMPETENCE IS A RARE COMMODITY IN SOUTH AFRICA STARTING FROM THE TOP.Cry the beloved country.

Indeet we can not run away from the matter of descipline as the SOUTH AFRICANS regardless of the political party and other philosophy that we are commited to. Descipline goes a long way and it is a sign of respect, so lets not doubt it. Coming to my organisation ANC we are all well trained how to be descipline but there are those who want to be known or recognised by their foreign tendencies in the organisation. I like one German writter whe he says ''an organisation is like a peach'' (many people are saying i like that organisation but if you check the internal proccesses its hard)
