Johannesburg - The Hawks raided the Pretoria offices of the department of mineral resources on Wednesday to find evidence related to the fraudulent awarding of mining rights, their spokesperson says.

"We have raided their offices in Pretoria. It is about mining rights obtained fraudulently," Macintosh Palela said.

He said a statement with more details will be issued shortly.

Well done Hawks! Go for them!!!!!

      FIGHT4FAIRSA - 2011-07-27 17:43

Oh and those commenting please keep your remarks clean for once and try not to blame anything on race.

      Dal68 - 2011-07-27 17:55

All a farce fightfair, all a farce and sorry, race will ALLWAYS be applicable in this racist country.

      FIGHT4FAIRSA - 2011-07-27 18:11

Dal68 we will however never make progress if that is our attitude. After 94 South African's were very cautious and afraid to do what's politically incorrect, however thatnks to the likes of Malema & Manyi the floodgates seemed to have opened. I don't believe that people with strong moral values and intellect should be allowed to be sucked in by the uneducated government agents and stoop to their levels.

      Dal68 - 2011-07-27 18:16

I agree fightfair, but attitudes won't change. Too late for that.

      FIGHT4FAIRSA - 2011-07-27 18:22

Dal68 we also have our children and future genrations to think about...Have to start somewhere.

      Joe Donner - 2011-07-27 18:29

They will disband the Hawks as soon as they become too effective.

  • Dr Filemon - 2011-07-27 17:41

Another corrupt aNc cadre will be suspended with full pay for years and defended at the taxpayers expense instead of going to jail

  • Spyker May - 2011-07-27 17:46

They also raided the offices of Imperial Crown Trading (ICT). I do not have to remind anybody that ICT is the ANC - fact. If this is legitimate - I will eat 'humble pie' right here; I will openly take everything back I am about to say and in fact lot more of what I have said before. However, I see this merely as a facade - the 'Hoenders'... ...sorry the 'Hawks' will use this simply as opportunity to validate the ANC's case, by (effectively) saying ' "look there, we found nothing". In fact I would not in the least be surprised if the ICT/ANC's offices were tipped long before the supposed raid.

      Martin - 2011-07-27 18:37

What now !!! I need time to fully digest the Cele's and Malema's of the world !! By next week it will be forgotten as we will focus on other CHAOS.

  • Hamilton Ngwenya - 2011-07-27 17:48

Glad to see the Hawks pulling out all the stops to root out corruption and fraud leaving no stones unturned.

      cliffarc - 2011-07-27 17:56

      - How about they start turning all the stones on Malema's case first ?

  • Nebs - 2011-07-27 17:50

I get hopeful whenever I read stories like this, and then I realise that any actual evidence that doesn't get "lost" will be drowned out by prosecuting incompetence and political interference, and half a decade from now the case will either forgotten or thrown out of court and no justice will be done.

  • brazach - 2011-07-27 17:58

this is good news, they better investigate fraudulently acquired mining rights dating back to 1652...

      Mercenary - 2011-07-27 18:10

Really...?? Theft of live-stock should also be on the cardsthen.

      brazach - 2011-07-27 18:33

mercenary we are in the same included...i am glad we agree

      Joe Donner - 2011-07-27 18:35

They should indeed, seeing as South Africa had a positively thriving mining industry at the time. Or wait...

      Mercenary - 2011-07-27 18:45

@ Joe it seems the sarcasm is going over some heads here!!!! LOL

      Worldwise - 2011-07-27 20:18

@ Brazach. Why do you live in Saudi Arabia when your African paradise created by the ANC awaits you? Your forefathers and ancestors sold those mining rights for mirrors and some steel. It seemed like a fair price to them at the time. If you sell your Mercedes for R100 to me because it seems like a good price to you, you can't blame my grandchild because I bought it. It was your choice. Same with your ancestors.

      brazach - 2011-07-28 06:41

worldwise where i go for business is none of your business and its not a secret. if there is nothing to hide then the investigations should be started as far as 1652, for the benefit of all south africans irrespective of race. be realistic, if someone feels a deal was manipulated it can be reviewed in court...if you dont know what you are talking about, dont respond, you are a waste of time

  • jock - 2011-07-27 17:58

is there any dept in our country that is not corrupt?

  • Rev. H-Cubed - 2011-07-27 17:59

Always fun to watch a tapestry unravel. Pull at those threads, let's see what lies beneath.

  • N49E10 - 2011-07-27 18:02

Wonder who tipped them off as they surely did not arrive at this action through their own initiative - @Spyker May - you may be right, just a smoke and mirror ANC instruction to take the heat off and make them look like they are doing something - to who's benefit is uncertain but imaginable...

  • Mercenary - 2011-07-27 18:06

This is going to be fun..... I'll put R20 down as a bet that "The Hawks are working for the White elite" Any Takers!!!!

      cliffarc - 2011-07-27 18:23

      - About time.

  • Bart Zimzon - 2011-07-27 18:09

didn't that Malemoer's friend, the sushi boy, had mining rights of Soweto? And Malemoer always talking about "nationalisation of m i n e s" ? his, I mean, not mine

  • FIGHT4FAIRSA - 2011-07-27 18:21

  • Thabo - 2011-07-27 18:57

It's about time they do something, I completely forgot that we have a crime prevention unit called HAWKS. But then again elections are around the corner, people should see that the government is working very hard. prevention unit called HAWKS. But then again elections are around the corner, people should see that the government is working very hard.

  • Black_Jesus - 2011-07-27 19:01

HAWKS = puppets! Afrikaner right wings are busy organizing illegal training camps in an attempt to topple the government organized WE DON’T SEE ANY RAIDS!

      Worldwise - 2011-07-27 20:25

If you know that the Afrikaners are doing this and you are not seeing any raids, you must know where these camps are. Why not report them to the police, ANC or ANCYL? I'm sure you'll get action from at least one of them. Even better, post their locations here, then we can all go and see for ourselves. Or are you speaking sh1t?

  • Mercenary - 2011-07-27 19:31

@ Black Jesus Please change your name!!!! Because you are proving that you are as presumptuous about yourself as the ANC is.
