Town - Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and Public Service Minister Lindiwe Sisulu are embroiled in such a row over an R11m bill for charted flights that the issue could reportedly end up in court.

According to the Sunday Times, Mapisa-Nqakula told Parliament in October 2012 that Sisulu had taken 203 flights on a private Gulfstream jet while she was defence minister. Sisulu has lashed back, accusing Mapisa-Nqakula of lying about the number.

In Mapisa-Nqakula’s submission to parliament she states Sisulu took regular chartered flights on the jet, including seven overseas trips.

According to the report, Sisulu took 15 return trips on a private jet between Johannesburg and Pretoria and Cape Town at a total cost of over R3.2m – an average of R214 466 per return flight.

Sisulu has stated that in her belief there is a malicious and deliberate attempt to damage her integrity and that she is “deeply aggrieved”. She said she has reported Mapisa-Nqakula to the public protector and parliamentary ethics committee.

The Sunday Times reported that Sisulu has sought legal advice and will, if necessary, use the courts to clear her name
