Misappropriation claims untrue - NYDA

2011-03-05 22:55

Johannesburg - Complaints lodged with the Public Protector against the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) were "untrue and unfounded", the agency said on Saturday.

Allegations that the NYDA was not within its mandate and that there was misappropriation of funds were false, NYDA spokesperson Andile Lungisa said.

This was in response to complaints lodged by the Freedom Front Plus regarding the 17th World Festival of Youth and Students in December 2010.

Lungisa said in a statement hosting the festival was within the NYDA's mandate of seeking to advance socio-economic development, reduction of unemployment and promoting social cohesion of the youth.

He said that funds raised for hosting the festival were used for that purpose and nothing else.

The NYDA submitted all the necessary documentation to the Public Protector for the inquiry as well as a letter to Minister in the Presidency Trevor Manuel detailing the activities and financial report of the youth festival.

"As an accountable institution of government we will await the outcome... and we will continue with our work and programmes aimed at the overall development of all young people," Lungisa said.

Yes Andile, spending millions on getting the youth drunk and frolicking about like 60's hippies has done immense good for social upliftment. The only uplifting that took place was in the pants of the young men who attended the conference.

  • nagappen - 2011-03-06 01:25

Yeh right you think we so stupid to believe you even care about the youth. If you do care teach them about respect, teach them about how important education is not militant action, teach them about being productive and efficient not lazy. Do not use taxpayers money for crap and pass it as social upliftment. The only people that believe your nonsense are those that are fixated on race and wanting everything for nothing.

It seems that Trevor Manuel has reared his head on a number of occasions recently .Where there is smoke there is certainly fire. Will the real Trevor Manual stand up to his true convictions instead of accepting his traitorous 30 pieces of silver

  • Grant - 2011-03-06 02:53

Oh come on! The NYDA has been hijacked by the ANCYL for their own ends. What are you planning on spending the 1.2bn alocated in this years budget on? This would have done more for the upliftment of the young by providing education bursaries than paying you and your ANCYL cronies huge salaries to enjoy life with!!!

      Zeus - 2011-03-06 14:53

What makes you think Zeus is Black! What are you!

  • Blip - 2011-03-06 03:22

NYDA probably think the whole world is as stupid as what they are.

  • Gerald - 2011-03-06 04:39

I would have approved of the money spent if had been to teach these louts things like respect for laws, themselves and others as well as responsibilities and duties and NOT "rights" ,demands, free booze and foods while their peers are starving.

  • Blikskottel - 2011-03-06 08:21

Andile, you are not fit for your position. fact is if it was not for your ANC connections you would have been just another one of the jobless mass, waiting on a corner for a piecejob. You claim to help these people, but clearly you are failing. I hope that this will get cleared up in a court where the truth can be uncovered.

  • Zeus - 2011-03-06 08:29

Molo Grant, and the rest of you hypocritical bigots in the FF-Plus and DA Youth! The gods fail to understand you tantrums. Our comrade Einstein would have commented on your tiresome tyrades by saying " It is a scale of proportions which makes the bad difficult and the good easy." The gods require that you rather declare the value (truthfully in billions), the private trust funds of all DA and FF- Plus. How much did your forefathers not steal for you and how much in billions do you own in propeties and offshore accounts. We are reminded of 40 years of investment ,Trillions into your minority groupings: exclusive education, exclusive business and job opportunities. We regret that you shame yourselves by hypocracy! Now grow up and shut up! Mr. Grant, Your DA Youth and FF- Plus still have it all! They are not poor! The god confute your attempts to detract democratic attempts to fix your mess of the past, or do you want us to encourage shacking up next your farms, trust funds, offshore savings, your multiple holiday homes! You are bunch of gimracks! Zeus!!!!!!

      Sword&Cross - 2011-03-06 09:45

Zeus, your statements are unfounded, even as much and more so than zanu-pf's in Zimbabwe. People from all over the world did come to this land IN THE CIRCUMSTANCES of that time, and brought CAPITAL & EXPERTISE in so many of the necessary functions to make a working society and economy. Admittedly, the heathens scattered around some parts of the land, marauding and raping and plundering very much as they still do today, did NOT have the capability to form functional societies to bolster and service the Capital Investments AND IT IS PERSONS LIKE YOU MISLEADING ALL THE YOUTH of South Africa down racial slurring and MISINFORMATION that are destroying the SA economy today. STAND BACK, and think, isn't it time that ALL YOUR MEMBERS STOP JUST TAKING and Start Trading AND PAY BACK ALL THE Millions and Billions and Trillions THAT WERE BROUGHT OVER HERE AND INVESTED but which are now unjustly been STOLEN by the likes of bigoted racists like you? If you youth think for a second it was a bed of rose petals coming into a dust barrel part of the world to partake in discovery of resources that your forefathers and sista's merely enjoyed being promiscuously profligate ontop of, then think again. THE PEOPLE THAT CAME AND INVESTED were HARD WORKING diligent and controlled persons who are UNJUSTLY SUBJECTED TO YOUR RHETORIC and Lies and obfuscation of real facts and history 'to suit a political purpose" and YOUR PURPOSE IS NOT A RIGHTFUL OR JUST ONE. None of you have ever invested a cent.

@Zeus - Quoting intelligent people does not make you intteligent, making a valid point does, and you fail. You are trying to to turn an accusation against the NYDA in a racist debate, and only a racist tries to turn a debate towards racism. But to get back to the festival, I know Germans that went to the festival and claimed they learn more about socio-economic development at any music festival in Europe than they did at the NYDA hosted festival, so that souns like a waste of money to me that could have been used appropiately, and thus they are guilty of misappropriation of funds

      ariphotah - 2011-03-06 10:38

Huh?? What is this diatribe all about??

      Grant - 2011-03-06 11:17

Zeus, you are a narrow minded, bigotted chop! You should have read my post properly instead of going off on a tantrum, I said I would rather see the money for the NYDA going to education bursaries to uplift the youth. Only education can improve a man's lot - any man, black, white, pink or green. By the time the NYDA has done anything about uplifting anyone, they will have already spent half the money on themselves.

      cerveza - 2011-03-06 18:23

@Kenko - and it sounds like you suffer from the disease that most stupid narrowminded racists do. Hopefully your eyes will open someday and you stop generalizing and make bigoted remarks

      AmandaWhereTo - 2011-08-05 15:21

Comrade Einstein could most likely have spelled 'tirade' properly, even though English wasn't his first language. Just saying. And speaking of 'tyrades' and hypocrites...

  • Sword&Cross - 2011-03-06 09:55

The misdirected misappropriation of funds through this ANC allied feeding frenzy of donations (NOT FUNDING) repeatedly to continually failing pseudo businesses IS A FARCE from start to finish. The ANC itself does not know how to GENERATE money or business, but only how to take what it can grasp and it has set a precedent for these youth to do teh same on into the future, STEALING the very future from their own oncoming generations. The Bubble will break sooner than later and predictions such as The Hedge Fund will Implode in 15 years time is more likely to implode in 15 MONTHS time at the rate you wastrals are going on. YOU KNOW this is the truth of the matter and why a few political connected andile's and duduzane's, cele's and some few thousand others are CASHING IN BIG TIME NOW before the collapse.

  • CNA-LOL-BS - 2011-03-06 11:20

Andile - correction - you did not raise the funds.... it was donated to by the National Lottery!!!!

      Kenko - 2011-03-06 14:09

The lottery donated part of the money (I think 20%), the rest was from government. The taxpayers funded most of the orgy and there is nothing to show for it. Orgasms don't count.

  • Other Justin - 2011-03-07 12:24

ANC, NYDA, Andile Lungisa, Misappropriation of funds........NEVAAAA! They could never do something so underhanded, they are angels, with black wings.....

  • Meanleader - 2011-03-23 18:03

Watch our tax money going down the urinal .

      Zeus - 2011-03-23 18:28

      Need a passport??

  • Buitekant - 2011-06-13 18:45

NYDA serves no practical purpose. it is merely another way in which the anc buy youth votes. Millions of $ wasted on kissing games, fried chicken and talking trash. Hell, I'll do twice as much for half the budget. That includes the 25% kickback.

  • onetickie - 2011-06-13 19:48

NYDA desperate for cover up. As if we don't know there has been misappropriation of funds. LIAR, LIAR, LIAR. No smoke = no fire.
