Cape Town - Party treasurer-general Zweli Mkhize has spoken out about Nkandla saying the saga "is affecting the ANC".

According to the Sunday Independent, Mkhize said that the party is uncomfortable with the situation and that they do believe the matter should be further investigated.

The newspaper states however, that Mkhize was not suggesting the project should not have been undertaken but that it should have been handled differently and been more cost effective.

He was reported as saying that one of the mistakes made was that the process of communication was not managed correctly. He said ministers and officials should have been communicating among themselves.

This comes after public protector Thuli Madonsela announced on Thursday that her report relating to the upgrades at President Jacob Zuma’s Nkandla homestead will be released in two weeks. A media briefing was scheduled for 19 March at her office in Pretoria.

More than R200m was allegedly used for what was described as security upgrades at the Nkandla residence in KwaZulu-Natal.
